Forgotten Wife Let the traitors kneel Down (by Patricia Maradiaga) novel Chapter 371

Yes, everyone is watching us.

Just focus on me, pretend they’re not there. Right now, it’s just you and me.

Those words calmed Abril’s heart, and she locked eyes with him, letting herself be carried away by the soft music, losing herself in the dream world she had always imagined. Alessandro felt Abril’s warm body and her soft fingers wrapped around his hand. He spun her gracefully on the dance floor. She didn’t miss a single step, having listened to him, focusing her gaze entirely on him, and said,

This has been my best dance.

I thought this was your first?

And it is even better than I had dreamed. I will never forget it.

There will be better dances than this.

Perhaps, but I’ll cherish this one in my heart.

Alessandro felt the urge to kiss her, and he leaned forward, gently placing his lips on hers.

I love you, Aby, my queen.

And I love you, Lessan.

They continued dancing several more songs until Abril began to feel tired and asked Alessandro if they could rest for a moment. He led her to the nearest balcony. The fresh breeze caressed their faces, providing relief from the stifling heat inside the ballroom.

Are you thirsty?

Abril nodded.

I’ll go get something to drink. Wait for me here.

Okay.

While waiting for Alessandro, Abril looked up at the sky. The full moon shone brightly in the clear sky, with stars softly twinkling. She took a deep breath, filling her lungs with fresh air, and thought,

This is the best day of my life

At least, until when she heard screams of terror coming from the ballroom. She rushed back inside to see what was happening and was met with a terrifying sight. The beautiful dream she had been immersed in minutes before turned into a nightmare.

She saw a wavering horror rising in the middle of the ballroom. It was black and thick like ink, leaving dark, pasty stains wherever it stepped. It had two white, burning eyes. Its hands ended in flat, shovellike ends, each with a single black claw protruding.

Alessandro and Cassian were struggling to contain them while the guests ran around in horror. Some guards tried to get everyone out as fast as they could, while others joined the battle against that creature that seemed to have come from the very jaws of hell.

But everyone who got too close ended up being devoured by the darkness and turned into another one of

those undulating creatures, and soon there were more than one to defeat. Alessandro shouted for

everyone to stay back while using his wind magic to create a wall. Cassian did the same with earth, raising the marble floor and trying to contain the creatures, but they were viscous and soft, easily passing through all obstacles.

Abril ran towards where Alessandro was, and seeing her approaching, made his blood run cold, and he shouted for her to stay away, not to come towards them, but Abril knew she was the only one who could defeat those creatures born of darkness, so she continued running. She hadn’t yet broken all the seals, and her mastery of magic wasn’t the best, but she believed she was strong enough to defeat those creatures, or at least that’s what she wanted to believe.

Alessandro was distracted for a moment when he saw Abril running towards them, towards the danger, and lost focus. Something moved at the edge of his vision just as Abril’s voice rang out in his ears:

Lessan, watch out!

He lunged to the side, dodging the flickering shadow that nearly engulfed him. Abril launched a ball of

light at the creature closest to Alessandro, and when that ball of light hit the creature, a thunderous

screech echoed. Abril covered her ears for a moment and then launched another attack at the creature,

causing it to vanish with her light.

She stood in front of Alessandro, and to many, it might have seemed amusing that such a small and

delicate woman was using her body as a shield to protect Alessandro, but for him, it was the bravest and

most terrifying thing Abril had ever done. She continued attacking the creatures that approached them,

hissing like a snake, until none were left, until all those creatures had vanished.

She looked at Alessandro and asked him.

Are you okay?

That doesn’t matter, are you okay?

Yes.

Where did those things come from?

I don’t know, before I realized it, everyone was screaming in terror.

Alessandro took Abril’s face in his hands and said,

Why did you come here? It was so dangerous; you should have left.

She shook her head.

I couldn’t do that. When I saw you were in danger, my body moved on its own. Before I knew it, I was already running here. I told you that I would fight by your side. I don’t want to be the only one who is protected; I also want to protect you. So I will always run to you, no matter the circumstances or the danger.

Alessandro wrapped his arms around her, speechless because he felt the same way. He was willing to risk

Before chaos erupted in the ballroom, Maya had seen a strange shadow on the ceiling. She had gone to investigate, struggling a bit to climb due to the uncomfortable dress she was wearing, but she made it to the ceiling. There was a man wearing a thick hood despite the heat, and she yelled.

Hey! What are you doing here?

The mysterious man dropped a small bottle that fell in the middle of the ballroom, and a grotesque creature emerged from it. Immediately, Maya threw one of the daggers she had hidden inside her dress, piercing his arm. He tried to escape, but she was quick, jumping to block his path.

Who are you? Show me your face.

Get out of the way if you don’t want to die.”

A rough voice spoke from within the hood, and Maya drew a few knives and said.

I don’t think that’s going to happen. If anyone’s going to die, I promise you it won’t be me, so surrender.”

The man looked around for an escape route, but whenever he moved to the right or left, Maya threw a

knife at his feet. She said to him.

We can do this the easy way or the hard way, and in all of them, you’ll be the only one losing. What’s it

gonna be?

The man lunged at Maya, and they both began to struggle. He tried to knock her down several times and throw her off the ceiling, but even with the large dress Maya was wearing, it wasn’t easy for him. She blocked all his attacks, and in the middle of the fight, she removed the hood from his cloak. Maya was very surprised to see that the man had red hair just like Abril. He took advantage of the moment to knock

her down and flee.

Maya reacted quickly and threw a knife at him, but he used a teleportation scroll and disappeared into thin

air.

Damn it, he slipped away.

The screams of terror could still be heard in the ballroom. Maya decided to return to try to help somehow, but when she arrived, Abril had already taken care of all the monsters.

Cassian, seeing Maya approaching with her dress torn and disheveled, ran towards her very worried.

Maya, are you okay? Are you hurt?

I’m fine.

Well, it looks like you’ve been in a fight.

That’s because I was.

Maya pointed to the ceiling and said to them.

The Enemy’s Face

When you went to get me a drink, I saw a strange shadow on the ceiling, so I went to investigate.

You climbed up there?

Yes, although it wasn’t easy. This dress isn’t very practical, but as I was saying, I saw a man wearing a thick black cloak. He dropped a small bottle from the ceiling, and that creature that attacked you

emerged.

Where is that man?

After fighting, he escaped, although I injured him in the arm.

Maya looked at Abril and said in a low voice so only Cassian could hear.

That man had red hair just like Abril.”

Are you sure?

In the struggle, I removed his hood, and tonight the moon is shining brightly. I’m absolutely sure of what I

saw.

Don’t tell Abril.

Alright.

Maya looked at Cassian, who was a mess, covered in dust. She brushed his hair a little and said,

I think you should go take a bath. You look a mess.

Cassian looked around. The entire ballroom had been destroyed in the battle, and the guards were lifting

the wounded off the ground. He said to her.

The bath will have to wait. I need to help here.

Then I’ll help too. The more, the merrier.
