You Can’t Lie Anymore
Cassian couldn’t accept the queen’s request, he couldn’t leave Maya in that place just to get the key to the gates of Hades. He was about to tell her to keep her key, that he wouldn’t accept her request, when Maya spoke.
“It’s okay, I’ll stay in exchange, you must give Cassian the key you possess.”
Cassian took Maya by the shoulders and said to her.
“No, you can’t do that, I won’t let you.”
“I’m sorry, Cassian, but that’s not something for you to decide. I’ll stay, that’s my decision.”
“No, Maya, I won’t leave you here.”
The queen addressed Maya.
“Are you sure about your decision, little wayward fairy?”
Even though it broke Maya’s heart to leave Cassian, she knew it was her duty.
“Yes, that’s my decision.”
“Then come here and swear loyalty to me.”
Maya tried to go to where the queen was, but Cassian stopped her, still holding her shoulders firmly. He made her look at him and said in a pleading voice.
“Please, Maya, don’t do this, we don’t need that key, let’s leave here, both of us.”
Maya gently caressed his cheek and said,
“This is my fate, and I can’t escape it.”
“We create our own destiny with the decisions we make.”
Maya gave him a soft kiss on the lips and said,
“I also wanted to believe it, I wanted to believe I was in control of my destiny, but it’s not true. A long time ago, I received a prophecy; it said that when I gave my heart, I would return to my home, and it has happened.”
“What?”
“I gave my heart to you without even realizing it, and now I have to stay here, the place where I supposedly belong.”
Cassian wrapped his arms around her, hugged her tightly, and said,
“No, now more than ever, won’t let you stay here, we must go back, we must be together. I want to have you by my side.”

“I know, but we can’t be selfish, there’s too much to lose.”
She freed herself from his embrace and said,
“Let’s not drag this out any longer…”
Maya moved away from Cassian and approached the fairy queen’s throne, who was watching them intently. When Maya stood in front of the queen, she took out a small key she wore around her neck and gave it to one of the fairies beside her and said.
“You will give them the key after she takes the oath.”
The girl nodded and stood a few steps behind her. Maya asked.
“What do I have to do?”
The queen stood up; Maya was even taller than her, yet she still looked imposing. In a commanding voice,
she ordered.
“Kneel and swear that I shall be your ruler from now on and forever.”
Cassian tried to approach them and prevent Maya from pledging allegiance to the queen, but two guards blocked his way. When he tried to dodge them, they grabbed his arms forcefully, immobilizing him.
“Let me go, you two.”
“You’re not allowed to come any closer.”
Desperate, and unable to move, Cassian tried to use his magic to free himself from his captors, but
something strange happened. His magic did not manifest. The fairy queen looked at him with disdain and
said,
“What are you trying to do, young man? I’ve already said I don’t want any trouble in my kingdom.”
“Tell your guards to release me. We don’t want your key.”
Ethan and Dantriel were about to complain, but then the queen spoke.
“She is the one who must decide, not you.”
The queen addressed Maya.
“What do you choose, little errant fairy?”
Maya turned to look at Cassian, she could see the desperation on his face, the fear and anxiety of losing her, but the decision she made affected more than just them.
“I’m sorry, Cassian, but I can’t do what you ask.”
Maya knelt before the queen and made her vow.
“I swear before you, queen of all fairies, to be loyal to you and obey your orders. I, Maya, swear by my name to bind myself to you and be under your command.”

The queen smiled with satisfaction. She leaned down, took Maya’s chin with a finger, and blew her breath over her face. Maya sensed a sweet fragrance of flowers and fruits that penetrated her nose and felt as if invisible chains bound her entire body. At that moment, she realized that her vow had not been mere words; she was bound to the queen by invisible chains. Maya felt a strong pressure in her chest, the air began to escape her, her breathing became labored. Cassian cried out.
“What have you done to her?”
“Nothing, it is her vow that is binding her to me. From now on, she is no longer a wandering fairy; she serves me and will be loyal only to me.”
The queen looked at Maya and said,
“Do not be afraid, the pain will pass. It is your vow that is being engraved in your heart. From now on, you will not be able to lie. That is the law of all the fairies who serve me. Lies are like fire that can destroy
everything in seconds. That’s why those who serve me cannot do it. Now you are obliged to tell the truth.”
The fairy holding the key approached Cassian, extending her hand to offer it to him. However, he did not
take it, his whole being rejected taking that key, because if he did, he would be admitting that Maya would
not return with him, that she would stay in that place forever.
“I don’t want your key, I just want her back.”
“The price for what you wanted has already been paid. That key now belongs to you; do with it what you
will, that is no longer my problem, so take it and leave my kingdom.”
Cassian punched the fairy on his right, forcing him to release his grip, kicked the one on his left, making
him double over, then kneed him in the face, knocking him to the ground. He was so quick that the other
guards had no time to react. He ran to Maya, wrapped his arms around her and said,
“I’m not leaving this place without her.”
Maya couldn’t speak; the pain in her chest stopped her, a few tears rolled down her cheeks. She caressed
Cassian’s face, pleading with her eyes for him to ‘go, but he refused.
“No, I won’t leave you in this place, I won’t go without you, I don’t care if the world descends into endless
darkness.”
Several guards surrounded Cassian, tore Maya from his arms, and it took four of them to restrain Cassian
as he fiercely resisted.
The queen spoke again.
“I have shown you my kindness, but you have discarded it by attacking my people, so you must leave while
my patience lasts.”
Dantriel tried to take the key, but couldn’t as a strange force prevented him.
“Why couldn’t I take the key? You have lied to us.”

“Fairies don’t lie, the key is yours, but you are not the owner.”
The queen gestured towards Cassian and said,
“He is the owner, he is the one who paid the price, only he can take what belongs to him.”
Dantriel turned to Cassian and said,
“Take that key.”
“No.”
Cassian refused.
“I don’t want it, give me Maya back.”
The queen looked at him, her gaze was intimidating.
“Now she belongs to me, so take what you came for and leave.”

The Woman I Love
Cassian felt powerless. He struggled to break free from the guards who had him immobilized, but all
efforts were in vain; the guards held him tightly. The queen gestured to the guard holding Maya in his arms
to take her away.
“Where are they taking her?”
Cassian shouted desperately as he saw her being taken away. The queen stood in front of Cassian,
blocking his view, and replied,
“Don’t worry about her. Nothing bad will happen to her, she is where she needs to be, in her home.”
“This is not her home. Let her go.”
“She never belonged to you; she is her own person. It was her decision to become my servant, so take what you came for and leave.”
“No, I already told you I wouldn’t leave here without Maya.”
“Then you leave me no choice.”
The queen gestured to the fairy who held the key to come closer, took the key from her hands, placed it
around Cassian’s neck, touched his forehead, and said,
“I will have to force you to leave. Return to your people and do not set foot in my kingdom again; you have
exhausted my kindness.”
Dantriel tried to help Cassian by saying,
“Your Majesty, don’t be so harsh. He is still young and doesn’t know how to control his emotions. Please let him say goodbye to her; it will be the last time he sees her.”
The queen accepted Dantriel’s request.
“Bring her so they can say goodbye.”
The fairy carrying Maya turned around and took her to Cassian.
“Release him,” ordered the queen.
“Let them say goodbye in peace.”
The guards who had been immobilizing Cassian released him. He stood up and snatched Maya from the arms of that fairy. She looked pale, her breathing was irregular, and she looked tired. He pressed her
against his chest and whispered in her ear,
“I’m not leaving you here. I won’t go without you.”
Maya still felt as if her heart was tightening. She wanted to say something to convince Cassian to leave, but the words got stuck in her throat. In the end, she could only hug him. He took her face in his hands,

looked into her eyes, and said,
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have brought you.”
Maya shook her head, wanting to tell him it wasn’t his fault, yet he continued apologizing.
“I’m sorry for being such an idiot and not realizing how I feel about you sooner. Please forgive me.
Maya kissed him on the lips, a kiss that was more of an abrupt clash of their mouths, trying to
communicate. She touched his face while, with a look, she told him everything she felt, told him how
much she loved him.
“Your time is up,” said the fairy queen.
Immediately, the bodies of Cassian, Dantriel, and Ethan began to fade. The queen had used her magic to
teleport them out of her kingdom. Cassian tried to hold on to Maya, but his hands began to disappear.
Before disappearing completely, he said to her,
“I’ll come back for you, Maya, I promise.”
Cassian appeared in front of the palace gates, kneeling, furious about not being able to do anything to
save Maya. Ethan approached, put his hand on his shoulder, and asked,
