After breakfast, Cassian and Abril took a walk in the garden until lunchtime. They ate together, and afterward, one of the maids announced Lady Elizabeth’s arrival. Abril knew she was there for her,

so she got up and said, “I must go.”

Abril took Koda from under the table, held him in her arms and said to Cassian, “I’ll see you later.”

The maid led Abril to the room where Lady Elizabeth was waiting for her. When she entered the

room, she stood up and curtsied.

“Good afternoon, Your Majesty.”

“I cannot be informal with the queen,” Lady Elizabeth replied.

“I am not the queen.”

“You are the wife of His Majesty the King, are you not?”

“Yes,” Abril said.

“Then you are the queen.”

“But I have not been crowned queen. Besides, no one considers me queen.”

“It is true that Your Majesty has not yet been crowned queen, but I am sure that you will be soon.”
