An Unbreakable Bond

Enzo smiled with amusement; he had always hated his sister for being a useless softie, and hearing her speak with such determination caught his interest.
“I understand that you’ve changed, kid sister, and that you have great power. I’ve heard what you did to our father, how you defeated him, but are you sure you can win this war on your own?”
“I’m not alone, can’t you see?”
“I’ve been on the other side of the battlefield, and from there I’ve seen a tired army that is gradually weakening. Our sister has an army of monsters; they are strong and disposable. If one dies, Cira brings more monsters from the abyss. From my point of view, you’re not about to win; you’re about to lose.”
Abril was about to reply when the fairy queen spoke.
“What do you mean by saying your sister is bringing monsters from the abyss?”
“If you want to know more, you’ll have to accept an alliance with me.”
Enzo addressed Abril.
“What will you do, kid sister? Will you accept this alliance with me and become allies, or will you refuse and remain enemies?”
Abril clenched her teeth tightly; she hated it when Enzo called her kid sister, especially because she was
older than him.
“I refuse to have anything to do with…”
The fairy queen interrupted, saying.
“I accept the alliance.”
Abril’s eyes widened at the queen’s response.
“Enzo is the enemy; nothing good can come from allying with him.”
“I’ve lived much longer than you, queen of humans. I know when something will bring me advantages and when it won’t. I always back the winning side.”
“Enzo is not on the winning side but the losing one.”
“Do you plan to fight on the front lines?”
“What?”
“Answer my question honestly.”
“I don’t…”
“Then don’t meddle in my decisions. He can give me crucial information to win this war, something that is

truly valuable in times of war. You, on the other hand, can only heal my wounded like a healer would. At this moment, between you and him, he is more valuable to me.”
Enzo smiled at what the queen had said to Abril, everything seemed to be going as desired. He wanted to dethrone his sister, who was a diabolical being, and would kill him the moment he ceased to be useful. But he knew he couldn’t do it alone; his only hope was an alliance with the other kingdoms, even if it hurt his pride.
“I don’t have much time. What do you plan to do, sister? Will you accept the alliance or not?”
“And how can I be sure this isn’t a trap created by Cira?”
“You’ll have to trust me.”
“The thing is, I don’t.”
“I understand your distrust, but right now, it’s not like you have many options, just as I don’t.”
The queen said.
“There is a way to ensure you won’t betray us, Prince Enzo. We will seal this alliance with blood, and it will
be unbreakable.”
“I accept.”
Abril was surprised by her brother’s quick response. He said.
“I must return to the camp before Cira realizes I’m not there, so let’s do this quickly. What do I have to do?”
The fairy queen took an ivory dagger from her weapon belt and made a small cut on her hand, the red blood falling to the ground.
“Do the same as I did.”
Enzo took the dagger the queen was offering him and did the same as the queen. Both blood mixed as they reached the ground.
“It’s your turn, sister.”
Enzo said as he handed her the dagger. Abril hesitated for a moment before taking it, but she did so anyway, slashing the palm of her hand and letting her blood fall to the ground where the fairy queen’s and her brother Enzo’s blood was. The fairy queen began to say a few words.
“The blood alliance will not break until all present are dead.”
Abril added.
“None shall attack the other; we will be in harmony.”
Enzo said.
“And none of the present shall kill the other; the punishment for breaking this sacred alliance will be
death.”

The blood on the ground began to unite and turned into a sphere that rose from the ground, becoming a red thread that wrapped around each person’s right hand. That mark burned; Abril felt as if it were being branded into her skin, and she cried out in pain.
“Ahg!”
Enzo, on the other hand, just stared at the mark of a red thread around his wrist and asked.
“What is this?”
The fairy queen, on her part, didn’t even bat an eye. She answered Enzo’s question while looking at the red mark around her wrist.
“This is the proof of our alliance, a promise of peace between our kingdoms, which is unbreakable. If anyone breaks this alliance and attacks the other, the mark will kill them.”
At that moment, Enzo realized why the fairy queen was someone so formidable. She had taken advantage of that moment to create not just an alliance but a bond to bind any potential foes.
