“I promised my brother that I would come to help him close the rift leading to Hades, you remember? I’ve been postponing my trip, but I can’t keep doing so.”

“Then I’ll go with you. I don’t intend to let you go to that place alone.”

“No, Lissana is still very small. I wouldn’t be at ease if we both went.”

“But I don’t want you going alone.”

“I didn’t say I would go alone. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I’ll have Sirius come with me.”

Alessandro knew Sirius was a great wizard, and Abril was just as powerful, but he was still nervous.

“Alright, but take a few knights with you too.”

Abril shook her head.

“No, I want my visit to the Kingdom of Laios to remain a secret. Taking too many guards would make that

impossible.”

“I understand.”

“But I can’t let you go with just Sirius. I’ll ask Cassian to come and accompany you; otherwise, I won’t be at

ease.”

“That sounds good, and could you ask Sirius to come? I’d like to talk to him and ask him to come along.”

“You know I can make him go, right?”

“Yeah, but I’d rather he went willingly.”

“If that’s what you want, I won’t stand in the way.”

That afternoon, Alessandro sent a message to the wizard’s tower asking for Sirius to come and sent a letter to Cassian asking him to come to the palace. He didn’t specify the reason in his letters, as it was a

delicate matter.

Sirius arrived early the next morning. He was on his way to Alessandro’s office when he bumped into Abril

in the hallway.

“Hey Sirius, it’s been a while.”

“Greetings, Your Majesty.”

“No need to be so formal, just call me Aby. You’re my teacher.”

“Alright, though I’m not your teacher anymore, I’ve got nothing left to teach you.”

“And I guess the king can’t know?”

“I’d appreciate it if you kept our conversation secret.”

“But why did you ambush me?”

“No, I haven’t had the honor of meeting Princess Lissana.”

“Alessandro will introduce you to her, I’m sure. When you see her, don’t say anything unnecessary.”

“Is there something wrong with the princess?”

“It’s not that there’s anything wrong, but I don’t want Alessandro to know yet.”

Abril started to walk away, and Sirius wondered what the queen wanted to hide from the king. Sirius

headed to the king’s office, and upon entering, he said to him.

“Why did it take you so long?”

“I came as quickly as I could, Your Majesty. It may not seem like it, but I have a tower to manage.”

Alessandro gave him an indifferent look, as if to say, Why should I care?

“Why did you summon me, Your Majesty?”

“I want you to protect Aby.“,

“Don’t you have knights for that kind of thing?”

“She must go to the kingdom of Laios, and her visit will be secret, so she will only take two companions.

She wants one of those companions to be you.”

“So, this isn’t about whether I want to be her guard, but an order.”

“I’d prefer you to go voluntarily since that’s what Aby wants, but if you refuse, I can make it an order. She

chose you, which means she trusts you. I hope you don’t betray that trust.”

“Alright, I’ll be the queen’s guard.”

“Make sure you take good care of her.”

“I will.”

“You haven’t met my daughter yet. Come, I want you to meet her.”

Sirius laughed, realizing the queen had been right. The king was doing what she had said.
