I’ll find you
Alessandro mobilized the entire guard to search for the pirates, believing they must have Abril in their hideout. However, by the end of the day, they still hadn’t found them. Alessandro decided to use his magic to locate them. Until now, he hadn’t done so because it required a tremendous amount of magic all at once, leaving him weak for days. But this was a desperate situation. Abril must be terrified, who knows what the pirates planned to do with her?
Alessandro channeled all his energy, called upon the winds, and merged with them, searching for Abril everywhere. Using so much magic at once made him dizzy, but he hadn’t found her yet and couldn’t stop. He delved deeper, hearing thousands of distant sounds simultaneously, searching for Abril’s voice among them until he found it. Abril was crying, begging him to save her, saying she was very scared. It broke his heart, he wanted to be there with her, to hold her in his arms and tell her everything would be alright, that he would come to save her. With his magic, he sent his voice to her, just a whisper, but Abril could hear it.
“I will save you. I’ll be with you soon.”
Alessandro pinpointed the location where she was held captive: a ship hidden deep within a sea cave. That’s why they hadn’t been able to find the ship; without his magic, he wouldn’t have found it either. Alessandro could go no further, he had exhausted his magic completely. He fell to his knees, and one of the guards approached and helped him to his feet. The king asked to be taken to the barracks; he needed to rest a bit before going after Abril. He had to go with his knights alone, as he wasn’t sure if there were more spies among the marine guard.
While resting, he summoned his knights. When they gathered, they all went to the port. Upon meeting the king, Alessandro saw his brother among them.
“What are you doing here, Cassian?”
“I’m a knight too, brother. I know I’m not in my best shape, but I’m still useful. Let me come with you.”
Alessandro had completely drained his magic in his search for Abril. In the fight, he wouldn’t be able to use his magic, only his sword. Despite the injury to his leg, Cassian still had a great amount of magical power. Although Alessandro didn’t like the idea of his brother accompanying him, he needed him if he wanted to save Abril, so he agreed to let him come along.
“Alright, but be very careful.”

“Where are they?”
“I’ll tell you when we get there. I don’t want them to be alerted,
I don’t know how many spies the pirates have infiltrated.”
“I agree with you.”
“Let’s go; we can’t waste any more time.”
Alessandro mounted his horse; Cassian and the rest of the knights did the same and followed him to a cliff. Cassian saw nothing on that cliff, not a small cabin or a place to hide. He asked, “What are we doing here, Lessan?”
“The pirates are the ones who kidnapped Abril. She’s here, held captive on a ship in a cave
within this cliff.”
Cassian peered over the cliff; it was too high and steep to descend.
“How will we get down?”
“Can you use your magic to help us descend?”
“Of course, but I think it would be better if you used your wind magic.”
“I can’t; I exhausted my magic finding the pirates‘ hideout, so you’ll have to do it.”
“I will, though the descent will be a bit rough.”
Cassian used his magic to make roots emerge from the ground, wrapping around each knight’s waist. He approached the edge of the cliff and said, “Let’s go.”
They all began to descend the cliff with Cassian’s help. At the bottom, they saw a large cave. Alessandro told them, “The pirates are at the back of the cave. Cassian, could you create a boat with your magic?”
“Yes, no problem.”
Cassian used a branch, making it grow and entwine until it became a boat large enough to hold ten people. As they entered the cave, everything was dark and completely silent, as if nothing was there. However, at the end of the cave, they saw light. They hugged the wall as closely as they could and disembarked on a small ledge. They approached stealthily, the cave was illuminated by several oil lamps hanging throughout, but there was no one in sight. The place seemed utterly deserted, with only the ship at the back of the cave. Alessandro led the way and told the knights to be cautious, all the pirates must be inside the ship.
They drew their swords and boarded the ship. No one was on deck, which seemed very

strange to Alessandro. It had to be a trap, but he couldn’t abandon Abril, so he had to take the
risk and continue.
“Keep your eyes open, this could be a trap.”
Everyone nodded and continued cautiously behind the king. Alessandro descended to the cell where Abril was held. She was in a corner, crying and trembling with fear, looking more distressed than when he had seen her through his magic. Alessandro’s blood boiled with rage: he would kill all those pirates, cut off their hands and feet, and then hang their bodies for the crows to eat.
Alessandro approached the cell. Abril was curled up with her hands and feet tied. Hearing footsteps, she looked up, terror in her eyes. Then she saw Alessandro. He broke the chain and entered the cell, asking her, “Are you alright? Are you hurt? What did those bastards do to you?”
Abril began to shed tears of relief. Alessandro untied her hands and feet, and Abril hugged him, saying, “You came.”
“Of course I did. We had a promise, remember? We will be together tonight.”
Alessandro hugged her back and said, “Don’t cry, I’m here. I won’t let anything bad happen to you. You’re safe.”
A rough voice interrupted, “I don’t think that’s the case, Your Majesty. This is just the beginning.”
They all turned around. A tall, terrifying man with a scarred face stood by the door.
“Are you the leader of the pirates?”
“I’m not their leader, I’m their captain. My name is Narrei. It’s a great honor to have Your Majesty on my ship.”
Alessandro ordered the knights to attack, but they couldn’t touch him. An invisible wall prevented them from advancing. Alessandro realized what it was; a wall of wind.
“You’re a wind mage.”
“Indeed. That’s how I knew Your Majesty would come. I could feel your magic. Honestly, I didn’t think you’d fall into my trap, but you were so worried about your wife that you didn’t even notice my presence.”
“I’m going to kill you, you bastard. I’ll make you regret touching my wife.”
“I don’t think that will happen. Your Majesty has exhausted his magic, and now you are all my

Alessandro laughed at the pirate’s words. Even though his magic was depleted, he remained a powerful individual. There was something the pirate didn’t know: Abril had an unusual ability; not only could she heal wounds, but her presence also rapidly replenished both physical and magical strength. At that moment, Abril was hugging him,and his magic was recovering faster than he had anticipated. He just needed to stay with her a little longer to break the barrier without any problem.
“You’re a real i***t if you think you’ve trapped me.”
“Even if you want to believe otherwise, you know I’ve won. Your magic is exhausted, and it you that you would take you days to recover enough to break my barrier. I regret to inform don’t have that much time. You’ll die before that happens, and I’ll have total control of the seas.”
“Keep dreaming.”
“I hope you say the same when I cut off your head. I wonder how big my reward will be for your head.”
“Reward?”
“That’s right. King Venobich will be pleased to know I’ve eliminated the entire royal family of the Cosset Kingdom. Though I’ll spare your wife; she’s part of the Venobich family. I think the king will be delighted to have his beloved daughter back.”
Abril shuddered at the thought of being sent back to her father. Alessandro ignored the pirate’s words, took Abril’s face in his hands, and said, “Don’t be afraid; that won’t happen.”
Alessandro gave her a long, deep kiss. Everyone was astonished to see the king flirting with his wife in such a situation, and the pirate captain mocked him, saying, “Saying goodbye to your wife? I see you’ve realized your predicament.”
Alessandro continued to kiss Abril passionately, completely ignoring the pirate and the astonished looks from his knights. Cassian was a bit annoyed and said, “Lessan, I don’t think this is the best time to kiss your wife.”
Alessandro pulled away from Abril’s lips and said, “No, it couldn’t be a better time.”
Alessandro smiled as he stood up. He had realized something: being close to Abril helped, but physical contact was even more effective. That’s why he kissed her. While doing so, he felt his magic fully restored, down to the last drop. Alessandro used his magic to break the pirate’s barrier, surprising him.
