A Promise of a Dance
Cassian was surprised by the firmness with which Alessandro had responded to him, even though Abril had not yet been crowned queen, he had already given her her place as his queen.
“Are you going to crown Abril?”
“Of course, when we got married she was very young, I think this is a good time to crown her as my queen. Well, first I’ll have to look into her education; I don’t want her to be mistreated for lacking
the necessary knowledge.”
“I thought you would never accept her as your queen, since her father is King Venobich.”
“She is not her father.”
“You know that perhaps the nobles will oppose her coronation.”
“If they value their lives, they better not. You know I’m not very tolerant.”
Cassian knew that his brother would need support if he wanted Abril to be accepted as his queen.
If he wanted to help his brother, he would have to stop hiding and take his place in the nobility. Until then, Cassian found it annoying and had been putting it off, but that had to end.
“Lessan, when we return to the kingdom, I plan to rejoin the knights.”
“If that’s what you want, I won’t oppose it.”
“And I’ll also take my place in the nobility.”
“What?”
“It’s time I left the nest and spread my wings.”
“I thought you didn’t want to be a duke.”
“It’s not that I didn’t want to, it just seemed annoying, but I can no longer run away from my obligations, I’m not a child anymore.”
“Cassian, you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to.”
“Even if you’re the king, you also need the support of the nobles; you can’t be at odds with everyone.”
“If it’s for that, you don’t have to become a duke, I’ll take care of everything.”
“No, Lessan, I’m a prince who still hasn’t chosen what to do with his life. You know that now that my injury has healed, when the nobles find out, if you give them too much trouble, they’ll want me

to be the next king.”
“You would never betray me, Cas.”

“But the nobles would, they are like vultures circling for prey. I must make it clear that you are the
only king and swear loyalty to you before everyone.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, now that my injury has healed, I want to be your right hand, the sword that protects the kingdom and the king.”
“If that’s what you’ve decided, I’ll accept it.”
“Yes, that’s my decision.”
“Then we can hold the naming ceremony when we return; I’ll grant you lands and your title.”
“That sounds good to me.”
“Even if you’re named duke, you can continue living in the palace; you don’t have to move out.”
“No, I want to show everyone that I’m serious about being a duke. I’m going to leave the nest, Lessan, but that doesn’t mean I won’t visit you.”
“You better make sure you do.”
Abril appeared, wearing a green and white dress that day. Her reddish hair was braided to one side, and she looked as happy as Alessandro. Cassian was truly happy to see them both so joyful.
Abril sat next to Alessandro, the servants served breakfast, and Abril asked,
“When will we leave?”
“We’ll leave after breakfast, so eat well. The journey will be long since we won’t be using any scrolls to travel,” Aessandro replied.
“Why not?”
“The scrolls put a strain on the body. If you’re well, there’s no problem, but if you’re weak, it can make you feel unwell. Since you haven’t fully recovered yet, it’s better to use the carriage. Where we’re going jsn’t very far, so we’ll arrive before nightfall.”
“I’m sorry for being a burden and delaying your journey.”
“Of course not. Cassian overused the scrolls a few days ago, so it’s not advisable for him to use them either.”
Abril felt relieved to know she wasn’t the only reason they weren’t using teleportation scrolls to

travel. When they finished breakfast, they left the mansion and got into the carriage.
They traveled for several hours in the carriage without stopping. By noon, Abril’s stomach began to growl with hunger. Lessan asked her,
“Are you hungry?”
“Yes.”
Alessandro asked the coachman to stop. He got out of the carriage along with Cassian.
Alessandro extended his hand to Abril to help her down from the carriage. As she got down, Abril took in the beautiful landscape. They were in a vast meadow with mountains and ranges looming impressively in the distance.
“We’ll take a short break here and then continue our journey.”
Alessandro said to her while holding her hand. Abril looked around in awe as she always did whenever they saw a new place, and she said to him,
“This is beautiful.”
“We’ve been lucky to stop in a good place.”
Cassian stretched his arms to the sky and said,
