When Cassian arrived in the city of Farell, the first thing he did was head to the tavern where the information guild hid. They were usually very secretive, and very few knew how to find them.

Cassian approached the bar and ordered a glass of milk, the secret code to speak with the guild leader. The bartender stared at him and said,

“If you want a glass of milk, go upstairs; I only serve alcohol here.”

Cassian did as the bartender instructed, climbing the stairs to find a s bustling with more people than the nearly empty one below.

Two men approached him and asked,

Those two men led him to a room with a desk, several bookshelves, a comfortable sofa, and a

large map of all the known kingdoms hanging on the wall.

“Wait a moment, we will bring what you requested now.”

Cassian stood still, looking around, and after a while of waiting without anyone coming, he began to grow impatient and started pacing around the room.

While doing so, the map hanging on the wall caught his attention, and then he heard the sound of

the door opening. He turned to see a tall, slender man with long black hair, dark skin, and striking

red eyes approach him and say,

“Isn’t it beautiful?”

“Are you the leader of the information guild?”

“I suppose so. Name’s Barto.”

“I need all the information you can find about King Venobich’s first wife.”

“What you ask for won’t be easy to obtain.”

“I’m willing to pay handsomely for it. How long will it take to get me what I ask for?”

“Hmm… that depends.”

“On what?”

“I want to know who she really was and where she came from.”

Cassian knew the information was costly, as guilds often used expensive magical scrolls to gather it. He gave him a bag with several gold coins and said,

“I hope this is enough.”

Barto weighed the bag in his hand and said,

“It’ll be enough to start with.”

Barto headed to the door and said,

“You can wait here, or head to the tavern and get a drink in the house.”

Cassian was hungry since he had used a scroll to get there, which left him exhausted; he needed to eat, so he followed Barto who went to the bar and told the bartender.

“Serve our client a good drink, on me.”

After Barto left, Cassian ordered something to eat and looked for an empty table, but the place was packed, all the tables were taken; in a corner, there was a girl who was alone. Cassian approached her and asked.

“Mind if I join you?”

The young woman glanced up and asked.

“Who are you?”

“A customer.”

“And does this customer have a name?”

Cassian knew his name was uncommon, so he decided not to give his full name.

“My name is Cas.”

“Cas?”

“Yes.”

“A short name.”

“Yes, that’s what many people say. What’s your name?”

“Your name’s nice too.”

Cassian sat down and looked at Maya for a moment. She was a beautiful young woman, with dark skin, straight black hair cut short to her shoulders, and beautiful red eyes like two jewels; she noticed his intense gaze and asked.

“What are you staring at?”

“Nothing.”

Cassian quickly looked away. Maya took out a book and started reading. Cassian ate in silence, trying not to disturb her; after a while, she closed the book, set it aside, and asked.

“Aren’t you leaving?”

“What?”

“You’ve finished eating, so leave.”

“I can’t leave, I’m waiting for…”

Cassian closed his mouth, leaving what he was saying unfinished.

“It’s obvious what you’re waiting for, but my brother will take some time.”

“Your brother?”

“Yeah, Barto is my brother, isn’t that obvious?”

Cassian looked at Maya and it was true, she did resemble Barto a lot.

“Honestly, I hadn’t noticed.”

“Well, now that you’re done, you can go.”

Cassian searched for an empty table, but the whole place was full, there was nowhere else to go.

“All the table’s are full. Can I stay here?”

“Alright, you can stay.”

“Can I ask you a question?”

Maya extended her hand and said.

“You can ask as many as you want, but I’ll only answer the ones you pay for.”

Cassian thought, no doubt she’s his sister. He only had the money he would use to get the information Barto would give him, so he said.

“Then I won’t ask any questions.”

Maya picked up her book again and continued reading. That book looked old, with strange symbols on the cover in a language Cassian didn’t understand, so out of curiosity, he asked.

“What language is that book written in?”

“One gold coin to tell you.”

“What?”

“You’re in the information guild, everything here comes at a price.”

Since Cassian’s curiosity was greater, he took out a gold coin and placed it on the table.

Maya took it and answered his question.

“It’s in Elvish.”

“Elves exist?”

“That’ll cost you another coin.”

Cassian took out another coin, Maya answered.

“Yes, although very few know about them, they hide in their kingdom because they possess an incredible amount of magic that goes beyond the four elements we usually see.”

“What does that mean?”

“Another coin, if you want to know.”

After placing another coin on the table, Maya continued speaking.

“Wizards usually use wind, fire, or earth magic, but there are more types of magic.”

“I already know that there’s also healing magic and the kind wizards used to create magical

instruments,

“There’s also light magic.”

Cassian had heard of light magic before, the magic that Abril possessed, he asked.

“Light magic?”

Cassian placed the rest of his money on the table and said to her.

“Answer all my questions.”

Maya weighed the bag from one hand to the other. Cassian thought that must be a habit among the siblings. Maya put the other coins she had taken from him into the bag and said.

“I’ll answer some of your questions.”

“Can a human inherit that magic?”

“No, as I mentioned, it’s Elven magic.”

“What if they’re only half–elf?”

“If their bloodline is noble, then yes, it might be possible.”

Cassian had gone there thinking he would find some information about Abril’s mother, but in the end, he had stumbled upon something unexpected. He wanted to run and tell his brother what he had discovered, but he decided to wait for the information Barto would give him before leaving.

Cassian looked at the book Maya had beside her and asked.

“Can you read that language?”
