Forgotten Wife Let the traitors kneel Down (by Patricia Maradiaga) novel Chapter 87

Someone Worth Fighting For

+25 Points

After defeating Baron Terren, Alessandro left the room. Onil was curled up in a corner, and Alessandro placed a hand on his back and said to him.

It’s okay, it’s all over now.

That wicked noble.

Now he’s just a handful of ashes; he won’t hurt any other child again.

Onil felt a wave of relief wash over him, knowing that the man who had tormented so many children was finally gone. Alessandro helped him to his feet and asked him.

Are you okay?

Yes, I’m fine now.

Alessandro saw that Onil’s legs were still trembling; he must have been very scared. He supported him in his arms and said,

Let’s go free the other children.

Alessandro went to the dungeons where the other children were imprisoned. Alessandro’s guards had already subdued all of Baron Terren’s guards and were opening the cells where

the children were held.

Onil recognized one of the children; it was Zia, an orphan who lived on the streets like him. Onil asked Alessandro to put him down and ran to where the girl was, gave her a warm hug,

and said.

Zia, I’m so glad you’re safe.

Onil, you came back for us, you saved us.

Onil shook his head.

It wasn’t me, it was them.

Of course not,Alessandro said,

You guided us here, that’s why we were able to save them. You are the hero.

Onil felt proud of himself for what he had done, for being called a hero. As they left the mansion, Alessandro saw that there were about twenty children in total, and he asked one of his guards.

Why are there so many orphans in this town?

+25 Points

A few years ago, there was an epidemic; many of these children’s parents died, others were brought from nearby towns, and since they were orphans, no one missed them.

Alessandro was dismayed to realize that not everything in his kingdom was as well as he had

believed.

Take these children to the temple, and I’ll figure out what to do next. I don’t want them back

on the streets.

Yes, your majesty.

Alessandro returned to the room that Baron Terren used for his experiments and took all the books that were there, as well as some of those strange stones that Baron Terren had swallowed. Since he didn’t know what they were or what those stones did, Alessandro made sure not to touch them, putting them in a glass jar. He had been so busy looking for everything that could help him understand what exactly Baron Terren was doing there that he lost track of time.

When he arrived at the temple, Abril ran towards him, worried about him. She had stayed in front of the temple, waiting for Alessandro to return, praying to God with all her might that he would be okay and come back safely.

Why did you take so long? I thought something bad had happened to you.

I told you I’d be fine.

Abril felt something wet on Alessandro’s back, and when she looked at her hand, she realized it was blood. Abril’s face turned pale, and she said,

Are you hurt?

Alessandro had forgotten he was injured.

It’s just a superficial wound, don’t worry, I’m fine.

How can I not worry? You’re bleeding; don’t ask me to ignore it.

Abril led Alessandro inside the temple, guided him to a room, closed the door behind her, and sat him down on the bed. She removed his shirt, which had been torn and bloodied as if he had been attacked by a beast, took out one of her handkerchiefs, dampened it with water, and wiped the blood off his body.

That’s a lot of blood.

It’s not a deep wound.

Why haven’t you been treated?

The guards tried, but I was busy.”

No matter how busy you are, your health should always come first.

After cleaning all the blood, Abril saw Alessandro’s wounds, and they weren’t as superficial as he claimed. Abril wanted to heal him immediately; she didn’t want to wait for her magic to take effect. But to do so, she had to remove her earrings, as they limited her magic, allowing only small sparks to escape.

Abril removed one of the earrings, placed her hand on his back, and a warm light enveloped Alessandro, healing the wounds on his back instantly.

Abril, what have you done?

Abril hugged him from behind and said,

Don’t do that again; if you’re hurt, let them heal you. Do you want to die? What will I do if you leave me as well? I don’t want to be alone again.

Alessandro had downplayed his injuries because he had suffered worse on the battlefield and still fought. But for Abril, he was her only family, the only thing she had, and ever a small wound terrified her at the thought of losing him because of it. Alessandro turned around, wrapped his arms around her, and said,

I’m sorry, this might happen again.

Abril clung to his neck and said,

I don’t want to lose you, Lessan, promise me you’ll take better care of yourself.

I promise, Aby, this won’t happen again.

Alessandro noticed that Abril had removed one of her earrings; he could feel her magic filling him, like a potion that recharged his strength. He separated from her for a moment, took the earring from the bed, put it on her, and while doing so, said,

You shouldn’t do this either; it’s dangerous. You still don’t know how to control your magic.

Then don’t get hurt again, so I won’t have to do this.

ו

suppose this applies to both of us.

Yes.

Abril hugged Alessandro again and said,

Lessan, you’re all I have. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you.

Alessandro kissed her, gently caressed her cheek, and replied,

You’re not going to lose me; I’ll always be here for you. You won’t be able to get rid of me.

Abril returned the kiss and replied,

I wasn’t planning to; I want to be with you for the rest of my life because, to me, you are my life, Lessan.

That night, Alessandro could feel the anxiety and fear Abril felt. He held her all night and stroked her hair until she calmed down and fell asleep.

Abril dreamed of her mother, who spoke to her with a face full of concern.

You shouldn’t use your magic, Abril; it’s too dangerous. You still don’t know how to control it properly.

I know, Mom, but Alessandro was hurt; I couldn’t leave him like that.

Even so, you must not use your magic.

I know you’re really worried about me, Mom, but what’s the point of having magic that can heal the wounds of the one I love if I can’t use it? Mom, I love him. If something were to happen to him, I couldn’t bear it.

Sophia hugged her daughter and said,

I know how you feel, my child. I went through the same thing a long time ago. I showed my power to save the man I loved, but it only brought me pain. Sometimes you can’t save everyone.

Maybe you’re right, Mom. Maybe I’ll get hurt and suffer because of my magic. But if I can help the man I love, if I know that thanks to my power, he’s okay, it’s a risk I’m willing to take.

My child.

I’m sorry, Mom, I’m not an obedient daughter.

Sophia stroked her daughter’s hair and said,

Don’t apologize for that. You’re just following your heart. You’re so good and kind, so pure, that I’m afraid for your future. I’m afraid you’ll get hurt.

Wounds are painful, but sometimes they’re necessary. They remind us that we’re alive, that I’m alive.

Mom kissed Abril on the forehead and said,

My child has grown and speaks with wisdom; you’ve become a woman.

After Sophia said that, Abril woke up. She was in bed, surrounded by Alessandro’s arms, her beloved. She was resting on his chest and could hear the beating of his heart. What she had told her mom was true; she didn’t mind getting hurt as long as she could protect what she loved. For the first time in her life, she had someone to fight for.
