Sienna’s POV
As soon as the car stopped in the parking area, Noah immediately opened his door of course only after I made sure his seatbelt was unbuckled. He hopped out with an excitement so contagious it almost made me laugh, simply because he saw the wide stretch of grass and the neat rows of tall trees in the distance.
A gentle morning breeze drifted past, carrying the scent of damp earth and wildflowers. Today was truly perfect for a picnic.
“Come on, Mommy! Hurry!” Noah shouted as he ran toward the spot he pointed out a shaded area beneath a large, beautiful tree.
“Slow down!” I called after him, but his laughter only grew farther away.
Liam closed the trunk, carrying the picnic mat and the food bag, while I held the thermos and the small box of chocolate cookies. We walked side by side, and for a moment I felt Liam’s fingertips almost brush mine just almost but somehow it was enough to make my heart beat a little faster.
“Noah picked a good spot,” he said softly.
I nodded. “He always knows which place feels the most comfortable.”We walked across the slightly damp grass, sunlight trickling through the leaves that swayed lazily above us.
The atmosphere was so calm almost as if the world had decided to pause for a moment, just to give us space to breathe.
Ahead of us, Noah kept running with his little steps, stopping now and then to examine passing insect or pick up a small stone he thought was “super cool!”. That chitd was like a magnet for every bit of light left in the world everything just felt more alive when he was around.
Liam walked close enough that I could feel the warmth of his presence, even though the breeze made the air a little chilly. His gaze followed Noah most of the time, but every now and then, I could feel him glancing at me not questioning, not demanding just making sure was okay.
And that alone made my chest feel full.
“He’s really excited today,” Liam said, his voice low and gentle, almost drowned out by the rustling leaves.
“He’s been saying he wants to picnic again for weeks,” | replied with a small smile. “I think he’s been waiting for a day like this.
“And we finally got it,” he murmured, taking a deep breath, as if sharing my sense of relief.
1 looked at him, and for a few seconds, our eyes met without the awkwardness we used to carry. Something had shifted, something that made it difficult for me to look away.Liam’s smile softened. “I’m glad we get to do this, Sienna.”
I lowered my head slightly, trying to hide the warmth climbing up my cheeks. “Me too.”
We continued walking without saying much, but the Silence wasn’t that of strangers unsure of what to say. It was the silence of two people slowly finding a new rhythm carefully, gently, but sincerely.
Up ahead, Noah kept pointing excitedly. “Mommy! Daddy!
Look! So many flowers!”
And indeed, halfway toward the big tree, a small patch of pyrple and white wildflowers covered the grass, swaying softly in the breeze. It was such a soothing sight.
“Noah will probably pick all of them if we let him,” I murmured with a small laugh.
Liam chuckled. “That’s fine. Let him be a kid completely today.”
Those words made me look at him again. The phrase” today” felt like more than a single day it felt like a tiny promise that there would be many more “todays.”
“Now it’s Mommy and Daddy’s turn!” Noah declared quickly.
I was surprised for a second, but Liam simply smiled gently before sitting beside me. We weren’t too close, but ngt too far either. Noah took the photo enthusiastically, even asking us to move a little closer.
And when Liam’s shoulder touched mine, a strange warmth spread in my chest soft, but strong.
Liam leaned in a little closer, following Noah’s instructions as the little photographer adjusted the angle Like a pro.
“Noah, ready?” Liam asked, patient and warm.
“Ready! Daddy, closer! Mommy, big smile!” Noah said while raising the phone with his tiny hands, determined to get the perfect shot.
I let out a slow breath, trying to calm my heartbeat that refused to settle. Liam glanced at me briefly, his eyes soft, as if checking whether I was truly okay with all of this.”You okay?” he whispered, just loud enough for me to hear.
I gave a small nod, my lips curving. “Yeah.”
And right then, Noah took the picture.
