Sienna’s POV
Noah sprinted toward us, holding a tiny stick like it was a valuable prize. He set it down on my lap before sprinting away again, entirely indifferent to what had occurred moments earlier. His universe stayed luminous and weightless, and I understood how deeply I wished to safeguard that for him. I didn’t want him to expect something that was uncertain. I didn’t want to cause Liam pain if he was once more sharing his feelings with me.
A comforting sensation gradually expanded in my heart, not solely due to the previous turmoil, but also because of the genuine nature of the two souls beside me today, one tiny and vocal, the other more subdued yet equally rich in affection. Beneath that large tree, I understood how delicate and valuable this moment truly was. How quickly everything could transform with a single small move.
As the wind softly swept by once more, I shut my eyes for a brief instant. Perhaps, for today only, I might allow myself to experience that warmth without overthinking.
Perhaps I could allow this uncomplicated joy to remain with me before the truth I had been evading reappeared.
Liam chuckled heartily, his expression revealing no remorse whatsoever. “It was merely a tiny kiss, Noah!”
“However, Mommy enjoyed it!” Noah answered earnestly, gesturing toward us.1 looked at Liam, my face flushed with equal parts embarrassment and frustration. “It’s your responsibility!.
See, now he’s even more persuaded!”
“Allow him to think whatever he wishes.” Liam shrugged nonchalantly, maintaining that pleased grin. “What’s important is that Mommy is now easy to kiss.”
I hit his arm. “Liam!”
He swiftly evaded, laughing. “Ow! You shouldn’t treat someone in love that way.”
I struck him once more, driven more by panic than by rage. On this occasion, Liam truly ran off.
“Oh, so you’re jogging?” I shouted after him, running.
“Jogging? This is a strategy for defense!” he yelled, veering away as I nearly caught him.
We twirled on the lush grass, amidst giggles and racing hearts. At times, Liam would pause just to taunt me with an air kiss, making me feel even more like tossing something at him.
The grass gently cushioned my steps while I pursued him across the vast field, as though the entire area had transformed into a massive playground designed solely for us. My breath combined laughter and disbelief as l found myself spending the day pursuing my ex-husband, who had just taken a kiss as if it was the simplest action imaginable.Liam, naturally, seemed to be relishing each moment.
Occasionally, he would look back with that playful grin that made me want to either hit him again or possibly embrace him. i was uncertain. Each time I nearly caught him, he would intentionally slow down just to dash away once more. It felt as if he was beckoning me near only to vanish just as swiftly.
During that pursuit, I temporarily lost my rhythm, nearty stumbling over a tiny concealed rock. My body lurched forward, too quickly, and before I could actually fall, my hand reached out looking for stability, anything to grasp.
Liam noticed it immediately. He came to a halt. Instantly.
His fast sprint transformed into extended, pressing steps.
He gripped my arm with equally quick reflexes. His grip was strong on my skin, stabilizing me even though I had already achieved my balance.
I could sense his breath, still irregular from jogging. And for an instant, it felt as though time had froze.
There was an arm’s length separating us, neither too far nor too near, yet close enough for me to sense his warmth.
Excessively warm.
I swiftly retracted my hand, my heart racing too fiercely for something as trivial as a game. Liam offered a faint smile, no longer making fun, no longer self-satisfied.
More akin to something he attempted to conceal but couldn’t completely stifle. Something that caused me toavert my gaze before I fell too deeply.
He retreated a bit, but his eyes remained fixed on me.
Liam paused abruptly, feigning indignation. “Brutal. I just kissed my wife.”
I remained motionless. The word my wife uttered in a manner that made my heart feel softly compressed. No chill, no separation, no stiffness.
Simply adoring ownership.
As though he was finally recognizing me once more.
Liam approached slowly, his pace softer now, no longer attempting to rush. I realized I ought to have remained angry or at least faked it, but my muscles tensed the instant he was directly in front of me.
“Apologies if Noah misunderstood,” he said gently.”
However, I have no regrets about kissing you.”My cheeks flushed once more.
Before I could say anything, Noah dashed over and took hold of both our hands simultaneously.
“Let’s head back home!” Noah wishes to inform Grandma that he is going to become a big brother!
“NOAH!” we exclaimed together.
Noah burst into laughter, grabbing both our hands as he leaped forward.
I glanced at Liam. He gazed at me with eyes brimming with warmth, then threaded his fingers between mine, clasping them firmly.
