Forgotten Wife My Ex-Husband Regrets It After I Left (Clara and Liam) novel Chapter 213

Liam’s POV

I remained rigid. Not a single part of me desired to embrace or console her like I once did. Instead I experienced a sense of disconnection as though she belonged to a past existence I had moved on from.

Emily clutched the cuff of my shirt with her hand attempting to draw me.

“Don’t go!”

“Emily ” I softly let go of her hand. “I’m not going anywhere at this moment. However, you have to relax.”

She vigorously shook her head, her face growing desperate. “You don’t get it. I can’t afford to lose you. I won’t let you leave my life.”

Her speech caused my jaw to clench.

There it appeared. The discussion I feared the most.

“Emily I’m no longer involved in your life.” I spoke quietly yet decisively. “It has been like this for quite some time.”

“I know!” Emily cried. “I believed I believed we could make it right. Those moments I regret all of it Liam. I regret walking from you. I was mistaken.”

I dropped my eyes briefly attempting to suppress the whirlwind of feelings constricting my chest. “That belongs to the past.

“Liam,” she attempted to raise her expression beseeching.”I continue to love you. I can’t allow you to develop feelings, for someone.”

I shut my exes briefly. Sienna came to mind, her face, her laughter, how she held Noah this morning and the concern in her eyes before I departed.

“I’ve mentioned this earlier.” I responded at last. “I’ve made my decision, about the path. It isn’t you.

Emily appeared devastated then sobbed intensely clutching the blanket tightly against her chest. “Why?

What’s wrong with her? Why did you decide to change?”

Before I had a chance to respond the doctor and nurse arrived, assessing her state. Emily continued to call out my name amid her tears. I moved back several steps allowing the healthcare workers room.

The doctor looked at me quickly. Murmured,

, “She requires rest currently. She appears emotional.”

I gave a nod, glanced at Emily again. She continued to gaze at me as though I were a universe that had vanished from her grasp.

“I’m unable to return,” I whispered gently. I wasn’t certain if she caught it.

Breathing deeply I exited the room.

I raised my head upon hearing the sound of a nurse’s footsteps drawing near. I realized the doctor would shortly appear and leave Emily to recover. Before long the room would grow quiet. I preferred not to be present when that occurred.

I inhaled more steadier now. Then I moved slowly down the hallway to its end, where a big window allowed the morning sunlight to enter. Soft light, in contrast, with the white walls.

In the mirror image, on the glass I noticed my weary silhouette, hair somewhat tousled, eyes filled with unspoken thoughts.. Something had changed: tranquility Determination.

After the doctor and nurse exited the room a strange stillness settled within the space. The only sounds were the beeping of the monitor and Emily’s uneven breath.

I moved a chair nearer yet remained standing.

“Emily, I will contact your manager. She can remain here to take care of you while you recover.”

Emily’s face shifted immediately. A mix of fear, irritation and rage simultaneously appeared.

“No stop!” She attempted to rise. Her body remained feeble causing her to quickly lose her equilibrium. “I don’t want my manager. I want you, Liam. Only you.”

I breathed out gently. “Emily, you require someone totruly look after you. That’s not me.”

“I don’t care!” she shouted, her tone escalating. “You’re the person Irecognize the only contact I recall. Liam.” She seized my hand holding it firmly as though her survival relied on it. “Please don’t abandon me here alone.”
