Forsaken by the Moon Goddess novel Chapter 81

Sloane

When I returned home from Benedict’s pack, it was to find that Scarlet already had the pack settled. She’s such a fantastic Beta. I can tell the pack is still feeling a bit uncomfortable about having the two of us as their Alpha and Beta so I spend the evening with our pack, similarly to how I did with Benedict’s pack this afternoon. We still have a long way to go to make our packs unified separately, then together, but it will be worth it in the end.

I have yet to deal with Gabriel and Jack, but I’ll deal with them tomorrow, my first real day as Alpha of this pack.

When I get to my bedroom, it smells enough like Benedict that I miss him terribly. My bed never felt empty before, but it does

now.

I crawl into bed and text him that I’m going to sleep. I think about last night and how much I’ve started to crave my time with him. He makes me feel calm and, like him, I like talking about things with him. He sees things differently than I do. He gives me a different perspective, and I think that makes us a good team. We both communicate and we both listen to the other person.

I smile as I breathe in his scent of a fine wine and let it lull me into sleep.

‘ATTACK! WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!’

The howls of alarm go up at the same time the pack link booms with the warning of our attack.

‘Warriors prepare for battle! Omegas, young mothers, elderly, and pups, get to the safe rooms!’ I bellow in the mind link as I race down the hallway. This is just one more reason I need to move my room to the end of the hall.

My grandfather steps out of his room just as I race up to it.

“Call Uncle Roman and get to a safe room!” I demand, before leaping over the banister and letting Aisling pull the shift on the way down. We nearly collide with Scarlet shifting into Davina on the way down.

‘Be careful!’ I say to her, knowing my Beta can handle herself.

‘You too,’ she says as we race out the back door of the packhouse and straight into the oncoming battle.

‘Let’s show them what happens when they come for our pack, Aisling,’ I snarl as she begins tearing through wolves.

I don’t have a mind link with my uncle’s warriors or with Alpha Austin’s, but I know when they enter the fight. They are much better fighters than my pack’s warriors.

For the first time in my life, I feel the tether of a pack member snap and I realize that, as their Alpha, I’ve just felt someone losing their life.

‘Aisling …’

‘Focus, Sloane. They will NOT take our pack from us,’ she snarls, ripping the throat out of a wolf in her anger and frustration as we feel another tether break. Our warriors are not prepared for this kind of battle. We need to end this battle and we need to end it quickly.

‘Alpha Benedict’s pack is answering the call for assistance,’ a warrior announces. Because the battle is so spread out, I can’t tell where they are, but I have to assume they’re closer to our shared border, which concerns me. This attacking pack has gotten deeper into my territory than I thought.

‘We still have people inside willing to betray us,’ Aisling says sadly.

I see a wolf leaping at one of my warriors. Aisling snaps her teeth on their flank, breaking the bone in their leg between her jaws before shaking her head violently and ripping the bottom part of the leg off. We don’t stop to kill this wolf, I need to find the Alpha who is in charge of this battle.

“Kaelin, no!”

Aisling whips her head around at the sound of my grandfather’s voice. I watch in horror as my grandfather stands in front of a large wolf. He’s not larger than we are, but he’s large enough to be an Alpha.

Kaelin shifts and snarls at his father. “This pack should have been mine, you fucking bastard!”

“You never deserved to be my heir!” Waylon snarls back.

I watch as Kaelin extends his claws and swipes them across Waylon’s face and neck, sending him sprawling to the ground.

‘NO!’ I scream.

Aisling races over to where Kaelin is standing over his father, ready to smash his foot into his head and end Waylon’s life. “Fuck you, Dad,” he sneers.

Aisling slams into him, sending him flying. Then she turns and I pull the shift, racing over to my grandfather.

“Grandpa! Grandpa. Hold on. Just hold on,” I say, pressing my hand against his face and neck. I look around, but there’s no one to help me. Everyone is fighting.

“Well, aren’t you pretty,” I hear a moment before a hand is in my hair, yanking my head back. “You must be Sloane. Your mate is here for you.”

My mate? How does he know Benedict is here? Is this about luring Benedict here?

I swing my fist up, but he blocks it.

“Grab her,” he snarls. I turn just in time to see Kaelin limp back over. He grabs my arm.

“You fucking asshole. I’ll kill you for what you did to my grandfather!” I snarl at him.

“You fucking bitch! You don’t deserve this pack! It should have been mine!” he says, backhanding me.

‘Scarlet! I need help!’ I yell in the mind link. I don’t trust that anyone else is strong enough to help me against an Alpha and Kaelin together.

“But now, it’s going to be mine.” I turn toward the voice in front of me and my stomach twists at the Beta who is obviously aroused, either by me or this battle, or maybe both. Either way, he’s disgusting.

He saunters up to me as if he as all the time in the world, as if there isn’t a battle going on around us. 1

“Too bad I already have a mate. I wouldn’t mind fucking your sweet pussy. I had no idea you were so fucking sexy,” the disgusting Alpha says in my ear as I fight to get away from him.vist j:o:b:n;i;?b/co;m for fast updates. “I feel sorry for your fucking mate, stuck with that pencil dick,” I snarl, yanking away from Kaelin just long enough to land a punch on the Alpha’s cheek.
