Maggie paused for a moment, then typed back: Happy New Year.

She was about to put her phone down and go to sleep when Johnny sent her a message, asking if she wanted to head over to Nolan’s place together tomorrow morning to wish Nolan and his wife a Happy New Year.

Maggie replied: Sure.

Then she finally set her phone down and went to sleep.

The villa complex was pretty quiet over the holiday, no fireworks going off, no noise, and Maggie slept straight through till morning.

When she woke up. Isabella was already awake. “Mommy, Happy New Year!”

Maggie smiled and handed her a gift she’d prepared before they’d gone out the day before. “Happy New Year.”

Isabella was thrilled.

After they’d both gotten washed up, they headed downstairs to find that Franklin was already up too, standing in the living room on a phone call. When he saw hem come down, he tilted his head their way and said into the phone, “Got it, Grandma. We’ll be over in a bit.” Then he hung up and held out a gift for Isabella. ‘Happy New Year.”

sabella took it with a big smile. “Happy New Year! Thank you, Daddy!” Then she turned to him and announced, “Mommy gave me a present too!”

Franklin laughed a little and glanced over at Maggie. “Did she now?”

His eyes stayed on her. “Grandma wants us to come back to the main house.”

t was still early. If they headed over now, they could have breakfast there, and Maggie would still have plenty of time to get back to the Miller family after.

But Maggie said, “Tell her I’m sorry, I won’t be making it this time.”

ranklin didn’t try to talk her out of it. “Alright.”

sabella knew exactly what that meant, Maggie was heading back to the Millers. She couldn’t help herself. “Mommy, I want to go with you.”

ranklin reached over and ruffled the ends of her hair. “Dad already promised your great–grandma we’d come back. But if you want to visit Great–grandma Killer’s side, you can always go after breakfast.”

sabella sighed. “…Fine.”

Franklin’s gaze drifted back to Maggie. “Heading out now?”

Maggie nodded.

Franklin didn’t say anything more. He just told the butler to have a car ready and arranged for someone to drive her back.

Maggie got in, and the car pulled out of the villa complex.

When she got back to the Miller family home, everyone was happy to see her but didn’t ask too many questions about her coming back alone

The ingredients had all been prepped ahead of time. Maggie grabbed some breakfast when she arrived, then got to work in the kitchen alongside her grandfather and the others.

It took a little over two hours before everything was done.

Once they finished cooking, Maggie got a call from Isabella saying she’d come by the Miller house a little later.

Sally had been doing okay lately. She hadn’t had any episodes recently, and she looked like she’d put on a little weight compared to this time last year. Seeing her in better shape than before made Maggie and her great–grandmother genuinely happy for her
