Chapter 581
After saying hi to Yulia, Maggie looked around and realized she didn’t recognize most of the guests at Nolan and Yulia’s place.
She was a little surprised to see Rex there, though.
lex had come on orders to pay his New Year’s respects to the couple. When he arrived and spotted Johnny but no Maggie, he’d figured she wasn’t coming, so it aught him off guard when she showed up on her own later. The Hardin family had a packed schedule today, so he couldn’t stick around long. He dropped off is gift, exchanged a few pleasantries with Nolan and Yulia, and headed out early.
Maggie and Johnny, on the other hand, ended up staying for quite a while, even going out to dinner with Nolan and his wife before the night was over.
Over the next few days, Maggie made the rounds with the Miller family, visiting relatives for a couple of days, then spent two more days just going out and
aving fun. But by the sixth day of the new year, work started pulling her back in, and she found herself out entertaining clients alongside Johnny.
‘hat particular day, the two of them were in a private dining room mid–conversation with someone about a potential partnership, when Levi, who’d made plans > have dinner with Franklin and Harry, happened to walk past their room. He caught a glimpse of Maggie and Johnny through the door and raised an eyebrow, lowing to a stop for a second look.
server had just finished bringing out dishes and was about to pull the door shut when he noticed Levi standing there staring into the room. “Sir, is there omething I can help you with?”
Maggie and Johnny both turned at the sound. When they saw it was Levi, Maggie’s expression didn’t change much, but Johnny gave him one of those smiles that idn’t quite reach his eyes. “Well if it isn’t Mr. Davis. Something we can do for you?”
evi waved a hand. “Nothing at all, just passing by. Don’t let me interrupt.” And with that, he flashed a grin and walked off.
When he got to their room, Franklin and Harry were already there. Levi pulled out a chair and dropped into it. “Everyone’s on time, nice.”
efore either of them could get a word in, he jutted his chin toward the hallway. “Guess who I just ran into.”
ranklin and Harry both reached for their tea. Neither answered.
evi got antsy. “Come on, you two can’t give me even a little reaction?”
ranklin set his cup down first. “Okay, who?”
Maggie and Johnny.” Levi poured himself some tea. “Those two are really something – still in the middle of the holiday and they’re already out working. Pretty ledicated.”
larry dropped his gaze and stayed quiet. The second Levi opened his mouth, he’d already had a feeling it was going to be about Maggie. He just hadn’t expected ohnny to be in the picture too.
Franklin’s expression didn’t shift much. “That so.”
Levi clicked his tongue. “Cole is Johnny’s company, not Maggie’s. The way she throws herself into it, you’d think the two of them were running some little mom and pop shop together.”
Franklin smiled faintly and didn’t take the bait.
Harry set down his teacup. “I’m going to go say hi. Franklin, you want to come?”
The implication was clear, with how closely Wilson Group and Cole were working together these days, stopping by to say hello was a perfectly natural laistress courtesy. Franklin was welcome to join if he wanted.
Franklin shook his head. “I’m good. You go ahead.”
“Alright.”
