Harry had mainly come over just to see Maggie.

He stayed long enough to chat a little with Maggie, Johnny, and even the people they were meeting with, then headed back.

Johnny was liking Harry more and more.

After Harry left, Johnny leaned over and said quietly to Maggie, “Every time we run into him, he always finds a way to come say hi. That’s pretty thoughtful of

He figured Harry was doing it as a way of showing he valued their working relationship.

Maggie nodded. She thought the same thing.

By the time Harry got back to their room, the food was already on the table.

evi was in a rare good mood. He poured drinks for both Franklin and Harry. “It’s not often we all get a chance to sit down together like this. We’re having nore than one drink tonight.”

When Maggie and Johnny found out Levi and Harry were there, they’d already figured Franklin was probably in the building too. The only thing was, Harry bad Come over to say hi, while Franklin hadn’t. Turned out their hunch was tight.

The group exchanged a few pleasantries, then all headed downstairs together. At the bottom, they went their separate ways

Maggie drove back to the Miller house.

She’d just pulled into the courtyard and parked when another car turned in behind her.

She blinked.

The car stopped. Franklin got out. “I’m here to pick up Isabella.”

Isabella had been staying mostly at the Miller house these past few days, but Franklin would come by in person every now and then to take her back to the Wilson family for meals. So this wasn’t their first run–in since New Year’s morning, they’d crossed paths a few times already.

The first time he came by this year, he’d even brought New Year’s gifts for Maggie’s younger cousins.

Even so, things between her and Franklin, and between Franklin and the rest of the Millers, still had that same lukewarm quality, not hostile, not warm, just

kind of… there.

Maggie gave a quiet nod when she realized he was here for Isabella again.

Light then, Isabella came running out of the house when she heard the cars, and stopped when she saw both of them standing there. “Oh! Mommy’s back too?”

Mm,” Maggie said. “Your dad’s here to pick you up. Go on, get in the car.”

Okay! Bye, Mommy!”
