Then he turned to Maggie. “What about you? Didn’t you say you’ve been seeing him pretty regularly lately? Have you heard anything?”
Maggie shook her head. “Nope.”
She and Franklin did run into each other pretty often, but outside of business, they barely exchanged two words.
Johnny said. “That’s weird…”
He couldn’t make sense of it, but he didn’t get much time to keep thinking about it either, because someone else came over to chat them up.
Not far away, Sophia was watching people fawn all over Maggie, and it was making her blood boil. She leaned over and hissed under her breath, “Didn’t we say we were going to get her and Johnny locked in for good? When are we actually doing something about it?”
racy said, “Grandma and the others said tonight’s not the right time or place. They’re waiting for the next opportunity.”
he was just as impatient, honestly. But she also knew that no matter how badly you wanted something like this done, you had to be careful. It had to be clean, lothing left behind to trace back to them.
Maggie’s work moved along steadily.
Over the next few days, she and Franklin met up twice more, but it was all business, nothing else.
fter watching Franklin and Maggie work together a few times in that completely professional, no–nonsense way they had, Glen had pretty much stopped hinking about whatever personal history existed between them. And it was the same with him and Franklin. As many times as they’d all been in the same room ow, nobody had brought up a single personal thing. Strictly business, every time.
efore long, March 8th rolled around.
Laggie had been buried in work lately, and that morning she slept in a little.
When she finally came downstairs, her aunt Helen greeted her with a big smile. “Maggie, you’re up! Someone sent flowers over for you to celebrate the holiday put them on the little coffee table. Go take a look!”
Laggie blinked.
he’d expected maybe one bouquet. But when she got downstairs, there were three,
wo of them bad cards with names on them, so she knew right away those were from Glen and Jimmy

Maggie shook her hend
Sure, Julia hadn’t been hanging out with the group much these past couple months.
3ut as far as Levi was concerned, Franklin and Julia had to be seeing each other all the time.
So when the whole crew finally got together for once, and Franklin and Julia were the first ones to bring up their own stuff, he figured he’d give them a little rief about it.
ulia caught the comment, and something flickered behind her eyes for just a split second. Then she smiled and said breezily, “What do you mean all the time? ranklin and I haven’t been seeing each other that much lately either.”
he said it like that on purpose. Because sometimes the truth is exactly what makes people believe you.
nd even if they did believe her, they’d just figure the two of them had been busy, that’s all. Nobody was going to jump to the conclusion that something might e wrong between them.
ure enough, Levi just laughed and waved her off. “Alright, alright, my bad. You two carry on then.”
nd just like that, the conversation moved on.
hat evening, Maggie got home after a long day at work and was about to hop in the shower when Harry texted her. Daisy was back in New York, he said. She’d een missing Maggie and wanted to get together.
laggie looked at the message and figured she had some free time the next afternoon, so she said yes.
he next day, she showed up right on time.
aisy absolutely adored Maggie. Even though they’d barely been in touch the past six months, Daisy didn’t act the least bit awkward around her. The second she
otted Maggie, she came running. “Aunt Maggie!”
aisy had gotten a little taller. Maggie scooped her up into a hug, then handed over the gift she’d brought. After that, Daisy launched into a full–on recap of rery interesting thing that had happened to her lately, and she did not hold back.
aggie sat beside her and listened, giving her her full attention.
arry quietly slid the menu over to both of them.
Ley ordered, and by the time Daisy had talked herself nearly hoarse and paused to take a sip of water before diving right back in, Harry caught Maggie’s eye id smiled without a word.
aggie just smiled back and reached over to pat Daisy’s cheek.
inch stretched on for a good while, but Maggie had somewhere to be, so once they were done eating, she started getting ready to head out.
isy didn’t want to let her go. Before Maggie could leave, she ran over and wrapped her arms around her. “Aunt Maggie, when I have time, I’ll come back and sit, okay? We can have dinner together again.”
aggie smiled. “Deal.”
