Chapter 596
So she also knew that on Thursday, Julia was discharged from the hospital.
Friday night, Franklin, Julia, Isabella, Harry, Levi – the whole crew went out to dinner together.
With Isabella running off to see Julia every single day, Maggie had figured this weekend would be no different. So she was genuinely surprised when Isabella showed up at the Millers‘ Saturday morning, bright and cheerful: “Mom, I’m here!”
Maggie ruffled her hair and gave a quiet “Mm,” pretending she had no idea Isabella had been spending every waking moment with Julia lately. “So where do you want to go today?”
Isabella hugged her and looked up. “What about you, Mom? Where do you want to go?”
I’ll follow your lead.”
They headed out, spent the whole morning together, and had just picked a restaurant for lunch when another photo and message came through.
The photo showed Franklin sitting around a table with the Browns and the Greens. But the background wasn’t a restaurant, it looked more like someone’s
home.
Then the message: My brother–in–law came over specially to have lunch with my sister at home, and he got there early too. Your daughter went to find you oday, didn’t she? You don’t actually think she missed you, do you? She found out he was coming to see my sister and wanted to tag along – took him forever to
alk her out of it.
‘Mom, what are you looking at?” Isabella leaned over.
Maggie’s expression didn’t shift. “Nothing.“.
sabella stayed at the Millers‘ on Sunday too.
But Sunday brought more of the same – an unknown number, another photo, another message.
Maggie didn’t read it closely, but she caught enough in that one glance to piece it together: Franklin had taken Julia out on a date today.
sabella had been asking for a home–cooked meal, and Maggie had been planning to make dinner, ingredients already laid out, but around four in the fternoon, Isabella got a call. She came to find Maggie right after, “Dad says Great–great–grandma wants us to come back to the old house for dinner.”
Okay,” Maggie said, “Got it,”
sabella was a little torn, honestly. She’d been counting on staying for dinner. But the car Franklin sent pulled up before she had time to think about it too nuch, and she said her goodbyes to Maggie and the rest of the Millers and climbed in.
After dinner, Maggie had just gotten back from an evening walk with Old Mrs. Miller when her phone rang.
sabella.
ter voice was hushed; “Mom, I think Dad and Great–great grandma got into an argument.”
Maggie blinked. “Yeah?”
Yeah.” Isabella sounded a little troubled. “I couldn’t really hear what they were saying though.”
Mm.”
Then Franklin’s voice came through in the background: “Isabella, come have some fruit.”
‘Coming!” Isabella called out, then came back to the phone. “Mom, I gotta go. Bye.”
‘Mm.”
