630. Waiting, Again and Again
Maggie was just about to say something when Isabella came bouncing out of the restroom. “Mommy! Great grandma! I’m done”
That little interruption put an end to the conversation. Maggie and Old Mrs. Wilson let it go, climbed onto the shuttle, and headed back down the mountain. by that same evening, word had gotten around to Julia. Levi, and Harry that Maggie and Franklin had agreed to push the divorce back a bit.
ince he heard, Levi tagged Franklin in the group chat: “You two are really out here making this divorce into a whole saga… actually no, at this point I’ve ompletely lost count of how many twists there’ve been.”
alia and Harry both saw it. Neither responded.
ranklin had already told Julia about it himself.
low, staring at the message on her screen, she slowly tightened her grip on her phone.
he’d figured that after everything Franklin owed Maggie and Old Mrs. Miller during these past weeks, even if they didn’t rush straight to the courthouse, they’d t least get it done once Felix was stable enough to go home and recover. That would’ve given them enough time to finalize the divorce before this decision indow closed.
ut with Old Mrs. Wilson putting her foot down, that window was gone. Franklin and Maggie weren’t filing during this period. Which meant they’d have to sit rough at least another cooling–off period before it could happen.
evi had been a little caught off guard when he first heard. But he knew exactly how close a call Felix’s accident had been, and he’d seen with his own eyes how uch it had aged Old Mrs. Wilson in just a matter of days.
> even though he was in the group chat shaking his head about how these two just could not seem to get divorced, he genuinely understood why Old Mrs. Filson had asked and why Franklin had said yes.
till…
obody was responding to him. He didn’t let it bother him. He was used to being the only one talking.
omething occurred to him, and he tagged Franklin again: “You saying yes I get. But Maggie agreeing… that one actually surprised me. I mean, she and johnny eem pretty solid. I figured they’d both be pushing to get this wrapped up as fast as possible.”
le hit send, then paused.
ctually, the more he thought about it, the more sense it made that Maggie would say yes,
ecause the last time he’d seen her at the hospital, it was obvious. Maggie genuinely cared about did Mrs. Wilson. Like, really cared. So even if part of her ranted to get the divorce done and be with Johnny without all the complications, she probably just couldn’t bring herself to turn the old woman down
hough. Julie was still in the group chat.
o he kept those thoughts to himself.
saying any of that out loud would’ve basically been going to bat for Maggie.
The chat stayed quiet
Levi Yall really that busy?
Finally Frankin showed up
But instead of responding to any of what Levi had written, he simply tagged Levi and Harry My dad’s doing a lot better now thanks for everythin, then past
few weeks You free later? Let’s grab dinner
Levi replied immediately Yes
Harry followed right after. Works for me
Levi jumped on it the second Harry appeared: “Oh so you WERE here this whole time. Harry? Just sitting there quietly? I thought everyone was busy
Harry read the message
