Chapter 104 Emergency Surgery
Third–Person POV

You sure you’re not gonna pick that up? Lillian asked, tilting her head. “She probably tore her sritches with all that dramatics, didn’t she? You really wanna let her pull another stunt like that?
“A few more scenes like that and she might actually bleed out.
You had to give Iris credit–she knew how to make everything a crisis.
But what she didn’t realize was that while she’d been scheming to sink her claws into Julian, Lillian had been quietly working in the background to destroy her reputation.
And while Iris had failed to steal the Alpha, Lillian’s efforts to ruin her had paid off in spades.
Now both Iris and the mother she’d always bragged about had their names dragged through the mud.
No sooner had the call ended than Hilda’s number lit up the screen.
Julian glanced at it, and the irritation on his face was impossible to miss.
Lillian said flatly, “Go ahead. Answer it. Yesterday morning, Iris nearly lost half her blood supply. You ignore this, and she might just lose the rest.
“Your brother’s gone. You’ve gotta take care of her now. Take care of her pup too.”
She mimicked the exact tone the pack elders used back at the manor, the words dripping with mockery.
At that moment, Julian was this close to losing it.
But finally, in front of Lillian, he picked up.
The second the call connected, Iris‘ sobbing voice flooded the line. “Ethan? Where are you?”
Ethan. That’s what she’d been calling him ever since the real Ethan had died.
A faint smile tugged at the corner of Lillian’s mouth as she watched him.
Julian’s jaw tightened. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s Eleanor… Eleanor was rushed into emergency surgery. Can you come to the hospital?

Please.”
Her voice cracked with what sounded like genuine desperation.
Hearing that Eleanor was in surgery, Julian’s gaze cut to Lillian instinctively.
Lillian just shrugged, like she’d been expecting this.
Julian exhaled slowly. “What happened?”
I… I don’t know. They brought her in by ambulance. That’s all I know.”
She kept crying as she spoke, her breathing uneven.
It sounded serious. Julian said, “I’m on my way.”
He hung up and looked at Lillian.
She clicked her tongue softly, then gave him a thin smile. “Guess they changed tactics.

“Figured out you wouldn’t come for Iris, so now they’re using your own mother to pull you back.”
The sarcasm in her voice made his temples throb.
His first instinct was to get to the hospital.
But the second he thought about leaving her alone at Laurel Manor, he knew–she’d be gone before his car hit the main road.
She was full of ideas.
He didn’t trust her. Not anymore. Not after everything.
“You’re coming with me.”
They’d barely been out of the car five minutes before he was shoving her back inside. Lillian fought it, obviously, but Julian didn’t give her a choice.
Iris called again. Lillian saw the name flash across the screen and felt her stomach turn.
But since it was about Eleanor, Julian picked up anyway.

The car tore through the streets, pushing well past the limit.
Lillian’s stomach churned.
She hadn’t eaten lunch yet. Her body was weaker now than it used to be–if she didn’t eat on time, it hit her hard.
“You…. hurry…”
A few more words passed between them before Julian ended the call.
His mouth was pressed into a thin line, his deep eyes unreadable. Neither of them spoke for the rest of the drive.
Not until they reached the hospital.
When they got out, Julian grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the elevators.
Lillian tried to shake him off. “Let go of me.”
“Lillian. You did this to yourself.”
He hadn’t wanted to be this harsh with her the past couple of days, but she wasn’t leaving him
any room.
The thought that he’d had to trick her today–pretending he’d finally agree to dissolve the mate bond just to get her to meet him-
How could he let her out of his sight now?
If he did, she’d vanish. Disappear like smoke. And with Finn hovering in the background, waiting for his chance…
Right now, Julian wanted to keep her so close she’d have no choice but to stay.
