Especially when it came to the Moonvale Eco–Community project–he was the one who’d handed Lillian the evidence in the first place.
And now, because of that, Iris‘ standing inside the Graves Pack was starting to crack.
For the past few days, the Council members had been muttering that Iris should be stripped of her Vice President title at Graves
Group.
The moment Finn’s name came up, Julian’s expression darkened even further.
“From now on,” he said flatly, “I don’t want to hear about what Hilda and the others are doing.”
Thomas blinked.
Hilda and Eleanor.
He understood now. Julian was making a point–showing Lillian, loud and clear, exactly who actually had the power to protect her.
And more than that: he wanted her to understand that unless the pack relented, Finn didn’t stand a chance of getting her out.
Thomas hesitated, then asked carefully, “So… how long are you planning to keep the Luna in there?”
How long.
Julian’s eyes flickered–something cold passing through them.
‘Until she asks to see me.”
Once Finn failed, the moment she reached out would be the moment she finally bent.
Thomas dipped his head. “Understood.”
But privately, he had a bad feeling about this. Things were about to get ugly.
What a mess.
…..
Over at Starfall Mountain, Lillian was already in bed. Chloe had come by again–these days, she spent every spare moment she had at Lillian’s place, just keeping her company.
At that moment, Chloe was in the bathroom, letting the shower run.
Lillian hadn’t asked a single question about Julian or what was happening at the hospital.
But as soon as she’d settled into bed, her phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number. “He said there’s no point in pulling you out. You need to learn your lesson. Let you suffer a little.”
Lillian stared at the screen.

She didn’t have to guess who sent it. Iris.
So the pack still hadn’t figured out she was never actually locked up
But the message itself–no point in pulling you out, learn your lesson, suffer.
Julian thought she was in holding.
And he’d decided to leave her there. On purpose.
Learn a lesson. Inside.
A bitter laugh caught in her throat. The irony of it all.
Her thumbs moved across the screen. “Once you lose that VP seat at Graves Group, you’ll end up just like me–nothing todo, rotting away on pack resources. Let’s see how much status you’ve got left in the Graves Pack then.”
Graves Group. The pack’s corporate front.
On the other end of the line, Iris read the message and went rigid with fury.
How did Lillian know her position was hanging by a thread? Unless… Unless she was behind it.
The Council elders had been circling for days. Ever since it came out that she hadn’t actually designed the Moonvale Eco- Community project, they’d been pushing to remove her.
They said keeping her in the VP chair would hurt the pack’s reputation. Tank the stock price.
The Graves Pack’s reputation. The stock price. Since when did a single woman have that much pull?
A bunch of fossilized old men.
But now, with Lillian throwing it in her face, Iris was certain–this was her doing
Iris‘ jaw clenched. She typed back, venom in every word. “At least I won’t be rotting away on nothing. But you? You’ll be doing exactly that for the rest of your life.”
But the VP position–that was different. That mattered.
She loved the rhythm of going into the office with Julian every morning, working alongside him.
And Eleanor had always used her competence as a measuring stick against Lillian.
If she lost that now…
What would she even be in Lillian’s eyes?
Step down? Iris thought, her grip tightening on the phone. They’d have to pry it out of her cold hands.
Lillian’s reply came instantly. “Don’t worry. You’ll rot right along with me.”
Iris nearly threw her phone across the room.
So it was her. All those old Council members, suddenly circling–that was Lillian’s work?

How the hell had she managed that?
Iris could barely breathe, she was so furious. “You need to know when to stop.”
Lillian’s response was almost playful. “You wanted me to stop? Shouldn’t have poked the bear, then. It’s a little late for that now.”
Even through text, Iris could practically hear the smirk in her voice.
So Lillian really had cut off her future. Just like that.
