Hilda had opened her mouth to speak, but Julian’s sudden outburst shut her down fast. She pressed her lips together and stayed quiet.

Iris wasn’t so easily silenced. Julian-

Out. All of you. Now.

Before Iris could get another word out, Julian cut her off and waved them toward the door. He couldn’t stand to look at any of them right nowespecially not these women.

He’d made himself clear before. Had they just not listened, or had they genuinely forgotten?

Eleanor opened her mouth again, ready to say, I know you can’t stand to see her locked up, but if you dare get her out this time, I swear I’ll die.

Julian’s attitude had pushed her halfway to madness.

She’d never liked Lilliannot for a single moment in all these years. And every time Julian stepped in to protect her, it only made Eleanor hate her more.

Now, that hatred had finally boiled over.

Julian shot her a look so cold it could freeze blood. Eleanor had more to say, but the moment she caught the storm brewing in his eyes, she swallowed whatever was left and stormed out of the hospital room in a fury.

ris and Hilda followed close behind. Iris hesitatedshe still wanted to say somethingbut Hilda beat her to it.

Julian,Hilda said quickly, don’t blame Iris for any of this. She’s been defending Lillian the whole time.

It was Mom who called the police.

What she didn’t say what she didn’t dare saywas that she’d been the one to lead the officers straight to Laurel Manor

The fallout from that would be brutal. Besides, she was running low on money these days.

Iris glanced at Julian, waiting. She figured now that Hilda had spoken up for her, he might offer a word of thanks, or at least acknowledge her loyalty.

But Julian didn’t even look her way.

Hilda quickly wheeled her out of the room.

Once the door clicked shut and he was finally alone, Julian pulled out his phone and called Thomas.

Thomas showed up within minutes.

Her face flashed through his mindthat soft, gentle smile she’d worn that afternoon while feeding him spoonful after spoonful of oatmeal.

Such a tender expression. Such a vicious heart.

He’d spent days trying to figure out why she’d changed so suddenly.

Now he knew. She’d poisoned the oatmeal. That gentle smile wasn’t kindnessit was a blade, sliding between his ribs one slow ut at a time.

What a cruel woman.

Had she gone this far just to sever the bond between them? Burn the house down, and then move on to poison?

Forget it,Julian said, his voice going flat. Let her sit in there a while longer. It’s time she learned a lesson. A little suffering won’t till her.

He’d almost told Thomas to bring her home. But he’d swallowed the order and turned it into something colder instead.

hat image of her feeding him oatmeal this afternoon flickered behind his eyes again.

He’d spoiled her. For years, he’d spoiled her rotten.

Just outside the door, hidden around the corner of the hallway, Iris sat in her wheelchair and listened. A slow, satisfied smile Curved her lips.

Julian was finally worn down. All that fussing, all that drama.

i tantrum now and then could be cute between mates, but Lillian never knew when to quit.

in Alpha didn’t have the patience to coddle some hysterical female forever.

Satisfied, Iris gave a meaningful look to the nurse standing behind her. The nurse nodded and silently wheeled her away.

nside the room, Thomas stood frozen for a moment.

Julian had just said to leave Lillian in lockup. To teach her a lesson. To make her suffer.

A lesson. Suffering.

Alpha,Thomas said carefully, if the Luna gets out after this, she’s going to be even angrier than before.

Lillian had already been running hot for daysscreaming, burning things, trying to break the bond. If Julian left her in there now and let her rot, who knew what she’d do once she was finally free?

Julian shook his head. You’re wrong. She’ll keep losing her temper out here. Let her cool off in there.

ed himself from wincing.
