Over at Graves Group, Julian’s head was splitting thanks to the Nirvana Project mess.

The meeting had dragged on until four in the afternoon. When he finally made it back to his office, he lit one cigarette after another, the room quickly filling with a thick haze.
Thomas stood rigid on the other side of the desk, watching him with obvious unease:
Julian finally spoke, his voice rough, “Why would Langley Group set their sights on something like Nirvana Project?”
Langley International Group.
That was a curveball Julian never saw coming.
He’d figured the Nirvana Project situation was just some petty friction with the project lead. Who the hell would’ve guessed the Overseas heavyweight Langley Group had gotten involved?
Thomas mulled it over, his expression grim. “Hard to say for sure, but one thing’s clear–our Nirvana Project is screwed.”
Julian said nothing.
Competition.
In Gilneas City, nobody could really go toe–to–toe with Graves Group. Even the Livingston Pack barely managed to hold their own.
But Langley International was a different beast entirely. Over the years, their operations had sprawled across half the globe, dominating the entire Western Continent. The Langley Pack behind them was the undisputed top dog there.
Except Langley Pack had always expanded west. They’d never pushed east.
So why would their first move into Gilneas City target something as relatively small–time as Nirvana Project?
It didn’t add up.
Thomas knew exactly what kind of muscle the Langley Pack had. No wonder he was rattled,
Julian was just as thrown.
After a beat, Thomas studied Julian with a serious look. “You got some kind of history with the Langley Pack?”
On paper, a project like Nirvana Project shouldn’t even register on a powerhouse like Langley Pack’s radar. But this time, they’d just… yanked it out from under them.
If that wasn’t personal, what was?
Julian shot him a look. “You seriously think I do?”
Thomas paused.
Right. He shouldn’t.

He’d been at Julian’s side for years, and Julian had never crossed paths with the Langley Pack. There was zero chance of bad blood.
But this move–snatching a project Graves Group was already knee–deep in–felt like a deliberate shot across the bow.
Nirvana Project’s people wouldn’t normally dare to piss Julian off like this. Which meant Langley had to be pulling the strings.
Plain and simple, it was a power play.
Julian glanced at Thomas. “You think Langley Pack’s gunning for us?”
Thomas nodded slowly. “Sure looks that way.”
Not just looks–it practically was. Langley Pack usually played clean when entering new markets, launching fresh projects instead of muscling in on existing ones. Stealing a halfway–done deal from a local player? Unheard of.
Julian took another long drag, the dark fury between his brows deepening. “I’ve never crossed anyone in the Langley Pack.”
He didn’t even know them. How could there be a grudge?
Thomas opened his mouth to respond, but his phone buzzed. He picked up. “Hello.”
Whatever he heard made his face harden. “You sure?”
A few more words came through, and Thomas hung up, turning to Julian. “Luna just went to the biotech company.”
The biotech company–Finn’s place.
Julian had no clue Lillian had a lab there. Hearing she’d gone to Finn’s operation, the veins on his forehead bulged with rage. “She’s still going to work now?”
That damn Omega. She’d just lost a ton of blood–she should be resting, recovering. What the hell was she doing running around?
By the time Julian reached Golden Square, Lillian was walking out with George, deep in conversation. Too far away for Julian to catch a word.
He leaned back against his car door, arms crossed, watching them.
His gaze turned cold, predatory.
Lillian spotted him and stopped mid–step.
Their eyes locked across the distance.
