His head snapped to the side. For a split second, he just stared at her, then let out a harsh laugh, his eyes narrowing. Unbelievable. You’re really throwing down with me over another Alpha?

Lillian’s voice dripped with venom. Throwing down? That’s nothing. Remember when I tried to poison you?

She was talking about the oatmealthe bowl she’d fed him spoonful by spoonful just yesterday.

Julian’s grip on her wrist tightened. In one swift motion, he yanked her against his chest.

Lillian fought it, planting her feet, trying to keep distance between them, but Julian’s strength was overwhelming. Before she could break free, George moved to intervene.

He didn’t make it two steps.

A dozen bodyguards materialized out of nowhere, blocking his path. The tension in the air snapped tight.

Lillian was shoved into the car.

She clawed, punched, slappedlanding several more hits on Julian’s face. Her nails left bloody scratches across his neck.

Let me out!

Finding the door locked, she whipped around to glare at him, pure fury in her eyes.

This absolute bastard.

Julian grabbed a fistful of her hair at the back of her head and wrenched her face toward his.

Lillian thrashed. Get your hands off me!

He wiped his neck with his other hand, then held his fingers up to his eyes. A faint trace of blood glistened on his skin.

Lillian,he said, voice low and dangerous, you used to love me so damn much. What happened?

At the word love, Lillian’s struggle intensified. Let go of me!

What were you thinking when you fed me that oatmeal?

Lillian went rigid.

Tell me,His voice dropped even lower. Were you thinking that if I died, nothing would stand between you and Finn?

The second Finn’s name left his mouth, Lillian slapped him again.

Julian’s hand shot out, clamping down on her wrist so hard she thought her bones might crack.

He kept dragging Finn into it, and Lillian’s breath came in ragged gasps, her chest heaving with rage.

What was I thinking?she spat. Your grandmother poisoned me. Why shouldn’t I feed it to her grandson?

Julian’s expression flickered.

Was I supposed to drink it myself? Play right into her sick little game and make your whole pack happy? Let me tell you something -dream the hell on.

Her voice rose, sharp and cutting. So here’s the deal. Either you break the mating bond with me right now, or whatever your Graves Pack dishes out, I’m giving right back. Let’s see who breaks first.

He had the nerve to blame her for the poisoned oatmeal? He should be looking at who put the poison in it in the first place.

So what if he ate it? His own pack had laced that bowl. He deserved every spoonful. He deserved to choke on it.

Julian’s temple throbbed as her words kept coming.

You wanted me to pay? Fine. Now we both know the truthit was your grandmother. So what’s it gonna be? You gonna lock her up, make her choke down her own medicine, let her beg you to let her out?

By the last sentence, Lillian was nearly screaming.

Julian’s breathing turned ragged. Enough!

Enough? Your grandmother tried to kill me, and you think that’s enough? She laughed, bitter and harsh. I don’t. Not even close.

Enough?

It would never be enough.

If you don’t deal with her properly, who knows what she’ll slip into your food tomorrow. You really think you can survive whatever she cooks up next?

Julian said nothing.

She’s got a million tricks. You really wanna live every day wondering if someone’s gonna put something in your food?

Julian stayed silent, his whole presence radiating menace. His grandmother’s betrayal had lit a dark fire in him.

Finally, under the relentless lashing of Lillian’s words, he pulled out his phone and dialed Catherine right in front of her.

The line picked up quickly. Julian? About time you remembered my number.

Lately, Julian had been so tangled up with Lillian he’d barely called Catherine. Even when he’d wanted to reclaim the assets under her namethe ones he’d originally given to Lillianhe hadn’t reached out.

Catherine’s voice carried obvious irritation.

Julian’s eyes flicked to Lillian, narrowing slightly. I took care of Titus.
