Chapter 151 Facing the Past
Third–Person POV:
A pup.
Thinking about it–Lillian had tried so hard for one over the past two years. Put so much effort into it.

But sometime in the last six months, after Ethan died and everything at the manor fell apart, that desperate need for a pup had just… faded.
Victor added, “But from where I’m standing, even if you gave her another pup right now, she still probably wouldn’t forgive you.”
He knew Lillian’s temper. Knew it too well.
Julian waved a hand, irritated. “Remind me again why I called you here.”
Since Victor couldn’t come up with a single useful thought, Julian had nothing left for him but a black expression.
Victor stared at him.
This guy couldn’t figure out how to win back his own mate and had the nerve to get attitude with him?
He wasn’t exactly thrilled with Julian right now either, but he kept his mouth shut.
“So what’s the situation with Lillian? What does she know?”
Julian paused. “She doesn’t know that I know. About the pregnancy. The miscarriage.”
Victor’s eyebrows shot up. “She doesn’t know?”
Julian shook his head. “No.”
He hadn’t dared to tell her. Simple as that.
Victor considered this. “Then keep it that way. Keep pretending you don’t know.”
Not knowing was safer. Better than walking into that minefield blind.
Because if they talked about it directly? Everything would blow up.
Julian didn’t respond.

Julian stayed in the study, smoking, one cigarette after another, until the sky outside went completely black..
Eventually, he went down to check on the kitchen.
Helen spotted him immediately, “We’ve prepared everything for Luna. Should I bring it up to her room?”
Julian’s voice came out softer than usual. I’ll take it
The image of Lillian’s pale face flashed through his mind, and his chest tightened. Hard
He felt like he deserved to die,
Why hadn’t he believed her? Why hadn’t he taken care of her?
If he’d paid just a little more attention, would their pup still be…?
He couldn’t finish the thought. Couldn’t breathe when he did. It felt like thin, creeping tendrils wrapping around his heart, squeezing until there was nothing left.
He stood there for a long moment, forcing air into his lungs, before he finally pushed the door open.
The room was bright. Too bright.
Lillian was awake now, sitting up in bed, phone pressed to her ear.
She didn’t see him at first–or didn’t acknowledge him.
The second she noticed Julian walk in, her voice shifted. “Just handle things on the Western

She hung up fast.
Julian watched her. That pale face. Those words
Western Continent.
His heart clenched again.
What did she mean, handle things on the Western Continent? What did she have going on over there?
And with everything Margaret had been dealing with lately–trouble on the Western Continent, complications–Julian’s eyes went dark.
He crossed the room, tray in hand. “You must be hungry. Kitchen made everything you like
Lillian’s voice dripped with sarcasm. “Is it poisoned?”
Julian went still.
He was already suffocating. That question made it worse.
A bitter smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I’m sorry.”
Sorry for what?
For not believing her about the miscarriage?
Or for the fact that after she lost their pup, she’d still had to watch her back–from members of his own pack–while staying by his side?
Hearing him apologize, Lillian cut her eyes toward him. Surprise flickered there, but mostly? Scorn.
Julian couldn’t handle that look. “Just eat.”
He picked up the bowl. “You want me to feed you?”
“Get out.”
He didn’t move.
Lillian’s frown deepened. “You smelly. I can’t eat with you in here.”
Julian’s jaw tightened. “I showered. Right after I got back.”

At those two words, Lillian’s expression–already cold–turned into something else entirely.
Hostility radiated off her like heat off a fire.
