Chapter 163 The Scheme
Third–Person POV:
Lillian stated, “If I hand the pup over to Julian, he’ll agree to sever the mate bond.
“Isn’t that what you want? So just tell me where the pup is. Let me take it to him, and everyone gets what they’re after.”
Deep down, Lillian was absolutely certain Iris was the one who had hidden the pup, so she put it to her directly.

On the other end of the line, when Iris heard Lillian say “everyone gets what they’re after“, her heart began to race uncontrollably.
That was exactly what she wanted.
Even though her mother had warned her before leaving for the Western Continent not to provoke Lillian for a while, Iris still wanted Lillian out of the Graves Pack as quickly as possible.
Hearing those words, she couldn’t help but feel tempted.
But then she remembered–she had to wait for the right moment.
She did want Lillian to have contact with the pup, just not yet.
Iris‘ grip on the phone tightened unconsciously. “He really said that?”
“He’s convinced I took the pup. He promised that once I bring it back, he’ll consent to break the bond.”
As she spoke, Lillian let out a soft, humorless laugh.
Then she added, “You know, Iris, if you applied this kind of cunning to anything else, you could probably build the strongest pack on this continent.”
Lillian couldn’t help but shake her head in a kind of grim admiration.
She had to give it to Iris–she was truly Margaret’s daughter, clever and calculating.
The way she operated made Julian trust her completely.
What a waste, using all that skill on a man.
“So, go on,” Lillian pressed. “Where’s the pup?”
By now, Lillian didn’t even want to wait until morning to meet Julian in front of the Town Hall.
Listening to Lillian’s steady voice, Iris clenched the phone even harder.
As much as she wanted Lillian to use the pup to force Jullan to break the bond right then and there, the timing still wasn’t perfect.
In the end, she forced herself to hold back from seizing the outcome she’d longed for and replied flatly, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You don’t have to give me an answer right now.”

Lillian wasn’t surprised at all.
The pup had just gone missing. Iris was probably still wrestling with guilt–no way she’d casually reveal its location.
“Just let me know before sunrise,” Lillian said.
Hiding her own daughter like that… Lillian had no idea what Iris was really planning.
Over the phone, Lillian added coolly, “But I’d be more than happy to file a report with the Pack Authorities alongside you.”
Iris was left speechless.
What did she mean, alongside her?
That if Iris filed a report, Lillian would too? On what grounds?
Before Iris could muster a response, Lillian ended the call.
Hearing the dial tone, Iris bit down on her lip so hard she nearly drew blood.
The attendant beside her, Edith, offered a glass of water. “Miss, please drink.”
Iris accepted it and glanced at the servant her mother had assigned to her before leaving for the Western Continent.
This was a servant from the Hayes Pack, not the Graves Pack.
Clearly, Margaret had known that with her own troubles escalating in the Western Continent, Iris might face mistreatment within the Graves Pack.
Her mother really did see everything ahead of time.
Eleanor’s attitude toward her had already begun to shift the moment Margaret’s affairs in the Western Continent started crumbling
Iris took a sip of water. “Can I give Lillian the pup now?”
Lillian had just said over the phone that doing so would let her and Julian break the mate bond for good–exactly what Iris wanted.
Edith gave a slight shake of her head. “Wait a little longer.”
“I don’t think we need to wait. As long as she breaks the bond with Julian, that’s enough”
That was the result she was after.
Edith replied patiently, “There are plenty of mated pairs who break the bond only to reconcile later.”
Iris fell silent.
“You took a great risk this time,” Edith continued. “The outcome you want isn’t just for them to break the bond it’s to ensure they never have a chance to get back together.”
“Right. No reunions.”
If the bond was broken, it needed to stay broken forever.

Edith nodded. “Julian already believes Lillian took the pup. There’s a serious crack in their relationship now.”
This was different from their previous disagreements.
Those had been minor disputes, small clashes.

But this was something else entirely. Julian was convinced Lillian had taken the pup–which meant he now saw her as cruel and calculating.
‘Miss don’t forget,” Edith reminded her quietly. “What Julian originally valued in her was her obedient and gentle nature.”
Hearing that, Iris nodded, a cold, sharp gleam flashing in her eyes. “Back then, he could have chosen any alpha–born daughter from the major packs, but he didn’t. What appealed to him was that facade of obedience and kindness Lillian wore.”
The daughters of prominent packs all came with strong alliances and assertive personalities.
Julian hadn’t wanted a mate who would challenge him or demand his constant deference. So he’d chosen one who would accommodate him.
Edith agreed. “Lillian has been acting out lately, but that image of ‘gentleness‘ in Julian’s mind hasn’t fully shattered. That’s why this situation is different. The pup’s disappearance and the house burning–they’re not the same.”
‘You’re right,” Iris said, her voice low and venomous. “She has to become a truly cruel woman in Julian’s eyes. So we wait. Keep monitoring the pup’s situation.”
