Lillian yelled into the phone, “Finn, this mess between us is all because of you. Having a friend like you is the worst luck of my life.
“And let me make one thing clear–this pup situation isn’t over!”
With that, Julian ended the call.
Hot anger flashed through her, but Lillian suddenly stopped trying to snatch the phone back. She just watched him silently.
That resigned, almost numb attitude–who knew how much hurt and disappointment had built up to make her this way?
Faced with her quiet defiance, Julian was so furious he turned and kicked the coffee table hard, sending it skidding across the floor.
The rage in his stance, the violence behind the motion–Lillian didn’t even want to imagine what would happen if he ever turned that kind of force on her.
f things had gone differently tonight, one of them probably wouldn’t have walked away unharmed.
‘For Finn’s sake, you’d really go this far to cut ties with me?” Julian bit out, his voice low and dangerous. “And this whole missing oup–he helped you with it, didn’t he?”
Lillian stayed silent.
.ately, every time they argued about breaking their bond, Finn’s name somehow came up. After everything that had just happened, anything she said to Julian felt pointless.
When she didn’t answer, he turned back toward her. His eyes held a vicious, predatory gleam, like he wanted to tear her apart.
He opened his mouth to speak, but his phone rang.
The moment he answered, Eleanor’s shaky, tear–filled voice came through. “Iris slit her wrists.”
Julian froze. His eyes snapped to Lillian.
Eleanor was sobbing so hard she could barely get the words out. “Ask Lillian what it’s going to take to give the pup back. What price Joes she want Iris to pay? If someone has to pay, let it be me–I’ll take it all for her.”
illian had been causing uproar for days. Iris had been talking nonstop about ending her life. Eleanor was completely drained.
Julian kept his eyes locked on Lillian, said nothing, and hung up.
Then he dropped onto the couch across from her, pulled out a lighter and a cigarette. The flame jumped. He lit up and took a long drag, smoke curling into the tense air between them.
They sat in heavy silence.
Everything about him radiated a cold, restrained fury. It was clear he wanted to grab Lillian by the throat and force her to tell him where the pup was.

And beneath that icy rage, Lillian finally spoke, “I didn’t take the pup.”
Julian might not be listening, but Lillian still had a voice.
He took another slow drag. “If it wasn’t you, then who?”
Who else, he meant.
That was his attitude–an accusation so absolute it shut down any possibility of conversation.
Lilliar replied flatly, “Instead of wasting time here with me, you should be out looking for the pup.”
‘You said it yourself. You hand over the pup, we break the bond.”
‘So just because I said that, it means I took it?” Lillian’s voice was weary. What was even left to say?
Whenever it came to her conflicts with the Graves Pack, Julian seemed to lose all reason.
He inhaled deeply again, the silence thickening.
Then Eleanor called once more about Iris. Julian stood, grabbed his jacket–clearly preparing to leave.
At the door, he slowly looked back. “If the pup isn’t back by sunrise…”
He trailed off, leaving the threat hanging.
But Lillian’s lips curled into a bitter, mocking smile. “Then you’ll call the authorities and have me arrested, right?”
The anger in Julian’s stance deepened. He didn’t answer–just walked out.
fet his retreating footsteps and his silence felt deafening.

His voice carried faintly from outside the door as he gave orders. She heard him tell the head of security, “If anyone tries to get in here to take her tonight–show no mercy. Take them down.”
Hearing how brutal his tone was, Lillian closed her eyes.
He was trapping her here. Until she handed over the pup.
Or worse–if she couldn’t, he’d probably be content to see her locked up.
Lillian narrowed her eyes, picked up the phone, and called Iris.
