He glanced at Finn and let out a low, humorless laugh. “She took the pup from the hospital–just to force me to break the mate bond. Did you teach her to be this ruthless, Finn? Is that what it takes for you two to be together–stopping at nothing?”
“You could try being more ridiculous, but I doubt you’d succeed,” Finn replied flatly.
Julian fell silent.
He ended up smoking nearly half a pack of cigarettes right there in Finn’s living room. After Finn’s jab, he didn’t speak another word until the last cigarette was stubbed out.
Finally, Julian rose to his feet and shot a look at Finn, who was still lounging on the sofa. “I’m not severing the bond with her. You and Langley Group need to back off.”
Clearly, he hadn’t taken Finn’s remark to heart. By now, he was convinced Finn had teamed up with the Langleys to pressure him.
“Then what gives you the right to keep it?” Finn’s mocking voice cut through the air just as Julian reached the door.
Julian froze. He turned slowly, his gaze sharp and dangerous–like a panther sizing up its prey in the shadows.
“Did you ever believe her?” Finn pressed.
Julian’s expression didn’t change.
“Didn’t I warn you to look into Iris‘ depression?”
At that, Julian finally turned fully, his face now ice–cold. “What are you implying?”
“The pup. You’re so certain she took it.”
Earlier, Julian had accused Finn of teaching Lillian to go to any lengths–even kidnapping a pup–to threaten him.
That told Finn everything: before coming here, Julian had already confronted Lillian about the missing pup. And he’d gone into that conversation assuming her guilt. A so–called talk–more likely a brutal argument.
Knowing how Lillian felt about Julian now, she probably hadn’t even bothered arguing. To her, it would have been pointless
When Julian remained silent, Finn gave a derisive chuckle. “A mate bond with zero trust—what’s the point in keeping it?”
“That’s none of your business.”
Julian’s temper flared. Lillian was his mate. Their bond was supposed to be for life. No outsider had the right to judge
“You’re right, it’s none of my business,” Finn said, tone deceptively light. “But if she decides to leave you, I’ll do whatever I can to help her.”
“Finn!”

Now Julian was seething.
Finn set down his wine glass. Even dressed in loungewear, his presence was unnervingly commanding. He stood and closed the distance between them.
“If you can clean up the mess inside the Graves Pack yourself, then I’ll respect you as an Alpha.”
What state was the Graves Pack in? Every bit of the chaos pointed back to Lillian.
Instead of uncovering the truth, Julian had taken his pack’s side and blamed her. Let’s be honest–the only reason Lillian had stayed with him all these years was because he used to protect her. But for the last six months…
And still, Julian refused to end the bond. Did he really think the Graves Pack had anything left to offer her?
Julian’s hands clenched into fists. Staring at Finn, he was barely holding back from slamming one into his face.
Finn’s lips curled. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you. The whole Graves Pack is leaning on you right now.”
“What, you planning to lock me up too?”
“Want to find out?”
That did it. Julian snapped.
In one fluid motion, he shifted–fur erupting, bones cracking–and lunged at Finn. A split second later, Finn shifted too.
“Buzz, buzz, buzz.”
Lillian had just drifted off when her phone vibrated insistently on the nightstand. She grabbed it without checking the ID. “Hello?”
“Ms. Lillian Moore? This is Gilneas PD. Your mate, Mr. Julian Graves, is currently being held at the precinct. You’ll need to come
down.”
Lillian had been half–asleep, but the words police station jolted her fully awake.
She sat up, pushing the covers aside. “Who did you say is at the station?”
Julian? She could hardly believe it. This was Gilneas City. Julian never ended up in places like that. And even if he did, why would they call her?
“Mr. Julian Graves,” the officer repeated.
Okay, so it was definitely him. What a surprise. Julian was used to doing whatever he wanted in this city he practically owned it
“What did he do?” she asked, keeping her voice steady.
“Assault.”
Lillian went quiet Assault Who the hell did he hit?
A sinking feeling settled in her chest, but she didn’t let it show “Why are you calling me?”
