Eleanor had made her position clear.

Besides, Hilda had no desire to remain under the oppressive weight of Julian’s Alpha aura any longer. She finally rose and made
her exit.
Before she left, she shot Eleanor a meaningful glance–one that plainly said, “Make sure you get Julian to sever the bond with Lillian.”
Then, she was gone.
The office held only Julian and Eleanor now.
Eleanor picked up the termination agreement and skimmed through it. She didn’t bother with the fine print, turning straight to the section on asset division. When she saw that Lillian was demanding half of everything, her expression darkened instantly.
“Half of all assets?” she spat out, voice tight with fury. “You told me she wasn’t in it for the money. Look at this–does this look like someone who isn’t after money?”
This wasn’t just about money. This was a grab for generational wealth.
That orphanage–raised girl really knew what it was to be desperate and poor. Now that she was latched onto a wealthy pack like theirs, she was biting down hard and refusing to let go.
And she wanted half? What had she ever done to deserve half?
What had she contributed to the Graves Pack or the Graves Group? Had she ever brought in business deals, like Iris had? Had she worked a single day at the company?
She’d been a stay–at–home Luna, living off the pack’s resources, and now she had the nerve to demand half of everything.
Eleanor slammed the agreement back onto the desk. “Not a chance.”
Half of Julian’s assets? She could keep dreaming.
Lillian could go right back to where she’d come from before marrying into the Graves Pack. Did she really think she could climb the social ladder by breaking a mate bond?
That would be for Eleanor to decide.
Julian took a slow drag from his cigarette. “So we’re not signing today?”
Eleanor stiffened, her heart skipping a beat.
“We’re signing,” she said tightly. “But not this version.”
What kind of agreement was this? It was pure extortion, plain and simple.
Eleanor was close to losing it.

“Wait here,” she ordered, snatching up her phone and storming out of the office.

Hilda had been lingering outside. When she saw Eleanor emerge, she hurried over. “What happened, Mom? Did Julian sign?”
Eleanor ignored her, striding toward one of the private reception rooms with a face like thunder. She shut the door behind her an placed a call.
It wasn’t long before raised voices could be heard from inside.
Back in the office, Julian remained at his desk, still smoking. Hilda glanced nervously in his direction, only to meet his cold, penetrating stare. A single look was all it took–a chill shot straight through her. She knew, without a doubt, that Julian’s deepest resentment was aimed squarely at her.
Over at Starfall Mountain, Lillian was enjoying a late meal. She was sipping soup while the kitchen staff had baked an assortment pastries and fresh fruits for her. The moment she’d returned, George and the other attendants had all fussed over her, saying she looked thinner after her time away with Julian. She’d been eating nearly nonstop since afternoon.
Her phone lay on the dining table, speaker on.
Eleanor’s furious voice carried through clearly. “You came into this marriage with nothing! All these years, you haven’t even given
the Graves Pack an heir!
“You’ve never contributed a thing to Graves Group. What gives you the right to half of everything?”
Half of Julian’s assets was an astronomical sum. To put it bluntly, it would rocket her up several social tiers overnight.
Lillian took a bite of the braised venison–tender, slow–cooked, and rich. The soup was light and fragrant.
Unfazed by Eleanor’s outburst, she replied calmly, “Because I was his mate for years. His bonded Luna.
“I didn’t give birth to the pups, but I carried them for him. And let’s not forget…” She paused deliberately. “Those pups were lost because of the Graves Pack, too. The blame doesn’t lie with me.”
Eleanor spluttered, “What–what are you implying? That our pack mistreated you? We never laid a hand on you!”
“Mental and emotional abuse still counts as abuse, Luna Eleanor.”
“You-” Eleanor sounded like she was on the verge of a heart attack. “With an attitude like yours, who could possibly abuse you? If anything, you’re the one who’s been abusing us! We’re the ones who’ve suffered emotionally because of you!”
Eleanor was spiraling. Over the past couple of years, sure, she hadn’t been kind to Lillian–but had Lillian ever held back?
And now she was claiming she was the victim of psychological abuse?
Was there anyone in the world better at twisting the narrative than Lillian?
Lillian’s tone remained even. “Eleanor, if you’re going to take that tone, then there’s nothing left to discuss,
“Or do you actually think going back and forth with me right now will change anything?”
