Lillian couldn’t help murmuring, “That’s truly exquisite.”

It was probably the most stunning piece of jewelry she had laid eyes on in all the years she had been mated to Julian.
Finn turned his head toward her. “You like it?”
“Yes, I do.”
Lillian nodded.
She never quite understood before why so many women were drawn to glittering things–but now it made sense.
It was just that none of the pieces she had seen before had ever truly appealed to her taste, whether in quality or brilliance.
This blue diamond, though—she liked it.
Finn said, “I’ll bid on it for you.”
The words were barely out of his mouth before Julian, seated beside Lillian, radiated a fury so palpable it seemed to thicken the air around them.
Even Eleanor, one seat over, struggled to mask her irritation.
As for Hilda–her reaction went without saying.
Finn hadn’t spoken loudly, but his voice carried clearly to her ears.
Bid on it for Lillian? What gave him the right? Lillian was still Julian’s mate–at least in name.
Eleanor, especially, could hardly contain herself.
She had come tonight intending to secure this piece and restore some of the Graves Pack’s standing in front of the high–society Lunas in attendance.
They had lost too much face recently.
Winning this as a reward for Iris, who had just borne pups for the Graves bloodline, would

And now Finn was interfering.

“Finn,” Eleanor said, forcing her tone into something gently persuasive, the way an elder might address a younger pack member, “you mustn’t compete with me over this. Iris has just given birth to Graves heirs. This is meant as a gift for her.”
Finn ignored her completely.
The dismissal hung awkwardly in the air, leaving Eleanor distinctly uncomfortable. Across the aisle, Hilda shot Lillian a glare sharp enough to draw blood.
“No,” Lillian said evenly. “I’ll bid on it myself.”
She was here to win the piece for Edmund, to help him court his girlfriend–what would it look like if Finn placed the bid for her?
“There’s a red diamond coming up later,” Finn remarked casually.
A red diamond would work just as well.
“That one will do,” Lillian agreed. She’d take that one instead.
When Hilda overheard Lillian refer to the red diamond so offhandedly, she nearly shot out of her seat.
What did she mean, “that one will do“?
Hilda had been eyeing that red diamond for herself–since when did Lillian get to decide it was “fine“?
Was she trying to claim that one too? Showing up with Finn was provocative enough. Did she have to snatch everything?
Those seated behind them witnessed the entire exchange between the Graves Pack contingent and Lillian alongside Finn.
Glances were exchanged, but no one dared to whisper–not openly, at least.
After the auctioneer finished detailing the provenance and history of the blue diamond, the bidding officially commenced.
The opening ask was one hundred million.
