Her words faltered as heavy tears began to roll down her cheeks.

She gasped, a hand fluttering to her chest as if the pain were too acute to bear. “I simply miss Ethan so terribly… Without his Alpha pheromones to comfort us, the pups and I feel so lost and unsettled…”
Eleanor patted Iris‘ back in a comforting rhythm. “There, there. Don’t dwell on such ugly things. I will handle her.” As she spoke, she angrily dialed Lillian’s number once more.
Call after call, all that returned was the cold, automated tone signaling a blocked number.
This only stoked Eleanor’s fury into a higher blaze. Damn that girl. If Lillian were still in the hospital, she’d march over there this instant and give her a piece of her mind…
Eleanor first called Inkwood Gardens, but the house staff reported Lillian had not returned at all!
Eleanor was seething. “Unbelievable! Not at the hospital, and not at home! How dare she vanish to who–knows–where at a time like this?!”
Being unable to locate her at this critical moment left Eleanor’s rage with no outlet.
Too incensed to let it go, Eleanor exhausted every method she could think of to reach Lillian. In the end, she had to borrow a phone from a hospital orderly to make the call.
This time, Lillian answered.
The moment the call connected, Eleanor unleashed the full force of her fury and the imposing authority of a former Luna down the line. “Lillian! Have you completely lost your senses?!”
“Who gave you the authority to publicly announce your mating bond with Julian? Did I consent to this?!”
The insolence! When the bond was formed, it was agreed to keep it private. Now, just to attack Iris, she was resorting to such an underhanded tactic?
“Let me make this clear,” Eleanor hissed. “Iris is in a postpartum state. Her body and mind are exceptionally fragile. If you push her over the edge and something happens, I will hold you personally responsible! You…”
Eleanor was livid. Announcing the bond now? It was nothing less than publicly branding Iris as the “other woman“. How vicious! And this when Iris had just given birth to Ethan’s posthumous heirs!
Eleanor’s voice was a harsh growl. “Sever it! You will sever the mating bond with Julian immediately!
“Don’t think that making your relationship public will cement your position as Luna of the Graves Pack! Dream on! So what if it’s public knowledge? You’re a packless Omega orphan. Even if Julian feels some momentary obligation to shield you, I have more than enough influence to ensure you cannot remain in Gilneas City!”
Listening to Eleanor’s frantic rage and her stale, recycled threats,
Lillian let out a light laugh, tinged with undisguised mockery. “It seems you didn’t read the accompanying reports thoroughly.”

Need her permission?
When I still valued that bond and offered her respect, she was an elder, she was Luna Eleanor.
Now? She was inconsequential.
Eleanor’s chest heaved violently. “What are you implying?!”
Faced with Lillian’s casual dismissal, Eleanor felt her authority crumbling, pushing her closer to the brink of frenzy.

Lillian’s tone was coolly informative. “The reports included two documents. One was the registration certificate for my mating bond with Julian. The other was a formal petition for its dissolution.
“Still clinging to the fantasy of being Luna for life? How amusing… Since we seem to be in agreement on this point, then please, Eleanor, do be a dear and persuade your Alpha son to sign those papers promptly. It will save everyone a great deal of trouble.”
Insolent! She was utterly deranged! Just listen to that tone!
“You dare to initiate severance proceedings yourself? What gives you the right? What are your qualifications?!” Eleanor’s voice scaled into a near–shriek.
Lillian replied, her voice smooth as ice, “Whether I am qualified or not, the documents have been delivered, have they not?”
Still putting on airs. Pathetic.
“From now on, for any and all matters, your son may speak with my legal counsel. As for you…” When mentioning the lawyer, Lillian’s tone took on a businesslike detachment laced with unmistakable scorn.
Eleanor was ready to combust from sheer fury at Lillian’s demeanor.
In the next moment, Lillian delivered the final blow. “As for you, cease pretending to be my mother–in–law.
“What ‘permission‘? What ‘not letting me get away‘? Do you genuinely believe the woman I am now requires your… forbearance?”
Eleanor spat, “You… you’ve crossed every line! No wonder, with your orphanage upbringing, you have no concept of propriety…”
The phrase “orphanage upbringing” caused the last vestige of warmth to vanish from Lillian’s gaze. She cut Eleanor off cleanly. “Your exquisitely ‘proper‘ Iris, raised by her marvelous mother, is currently being denounced across all of Gilneas, is she not?
