If this was all because of Lillian, then as far as Thomas was concerned, things just got a whole lot simpler.
Julian’s brow furrowed. “You really think she’s tied to Langley Group?”
Thomas paused. “Well…”
“You’re giving her way too much credit.”
Thomas stayed silent. It was pretty clear Julian wasn’t buying his theory.
Not that he looked down on Lillian–he just genuinely couldn’t see how an Omega raised in a state home could possibly be connected to an old–money conglomerate like Langley Group.
“Right,” Thomas finally said.
Julian hung up.
He took a slow drag from his cigarette before heading back to his car. Once inside, he didn’t start the engine right away.
Finn’s words kept replaying in his mind, and now they finally clicked.
Why had Finn agreed so easily to end their partnership right after Lillian started making a scene?
He must’ve known about this for a while.
Even though he didn’t fully believe Thomas‘ suspicion, Julian still pulled out his phone and called Lillian.
She didn’t pick up.
Once, twice, three times.
The more she ignored him, the more irritated he felt.

Over at the hospital, tensions were just as high.

That morning, Eleanor had headed to the auction full of confidence, promising Iris she’d bring back a blue diamond as a reward.
Who wouldn’t want a flawless blue diamond? Iris had been trying to get her hands on one for years, but they were incredibly rare and almost impossible to buy.
So when Eleanor promised to secure one, it had made Iris happier than she’d been in a long time.
But then Eleanor returned empty–handed–no blue diamond, not even the red one she’d vaguely hoped for. Iris could barely keep her composure.
Now that her mother’s troubles over on the Western Continent were nearly resolved, Iris didn’t feel like pretending anymore.
Especially not now.
“So what you’re saying is,” Iris began, voice tight, “I went through all of that for nothing?”
Her tone was sharper than Eleanor had ever heard before.
Eleanor blinked, taken aback. “Iris, you…”
In all the years Iris had been with Ethan, she’d nev
spoken to Eleanor like this.
“I went through hell to carry those pups,” Iris said, her voice beginning to shake. “You all couldn’t even keep them safe. One of them died.”
The words hit Eleanor like a physical blow, her head suddenly pounding.
“And the one responsible doesn’t have to pay for it,” Iris went on, anger rising. “What did I get out of any of this? I lost my mate. I lost a pup. I don’t even know if the other will make it.”
“And that’s my fault?” Eleanor shot back, temper flaring.
She’d already endured a humiliating confrontation with the Livingston Pack earlier. Listening to Iris now was more than she could take calmly.
“Mom,” Hilda cut in sharply. She usually got along well with Iris, but now she stepped between them. “Just drop it.”
Hilda pulled Eleanor aside slightly, then turned to Iris with a calmer expression. “Iris, relax. Mom said she’d reward you, and she will.”
“Do I even care about a reward?” Iris‘ voice was thick with emotion. “My mother will be back

soon. I wanted to give her-”
She cut herself off, but the implication was clear.
She was bringing Margaret into this.

And sure enough, the moment Eleanor heard Margaret’s name, most of her anger drained
away.
That woman wasn’t someone you crossed lightly.
Seeing Eleanor’s hesitation, Hilda gave Iris a subtle look–a signal to stand down.
Iris took the cue and let the Margaret card hang in the air.
Finally, Eleanor’s tone softened. “Don’t worry. You gave the Graves Pack a set of twins. I won’t shortchange you.”
It was just a matter of finding the right reward… though honestly, she couldn’t think of anything suitable at the moment.
That damn Lillian was nothing but trouble. The two most coveted lots at the auction had both gone to her.
She and Julian hadn’t even formally ended their partnership, and yet Finn was already throwing that kind of money around for her.
The blue diamond was gone. The red diamond was gone, too.
“Who bought the blue diamond?” Iris asked as soon as Eleanor’s voice softened.
The question made both Eleanor and Hilda stiffen.
Hilda’s reply was bitter. “Who else? Lillian.”
Iris‘ face darkened. “How could she afford that?”
