Julian’s gaze turned razor–sharp. “Let’s get specific–exactly how much are we talking about?” His tone cut through the boardroom like ice.
The building tension in the room froze solid.
Elder Whitaker narrowed his eyes. “What are you implying?”
“Every one of you knows exactly how much the Graves family has poured into your ventures over the years,” Julian stated coldly. “If you think you can use that as leverage now, consider this your moment to walk away from the Graves Pack. Today.”
Thomas fell silent, as did the other elders.
Julian was rapidly losing patience.
He was already strategizing how to deal with Langley Group, and now the old wolves within his own pack were circling, making everything harder.
Did they really believe he hadn’t noticed their schemes all these years
He pushed back his chair and stood abruptly. In one sweeping motion, he knocked his laptop and
pen off the polished table. They hit the floor with a sharp, cracking sound.
The noise–much like Julian’s expression–served as a final warning to every

elder present.
The Langleys were a persistent thorn in his side, but right now, the situation back at the mansion was even more infuriating.
As Julian stormed out of the meeting room, Victor was just walking in.
“Julian? You’re heading out already?”
“I haven’t clocked out on time in weeks,” Julian shot back without breaking stride. “Got a problem with that?”
Victor raised his hands defensively. “Hey, why take it out on me? What did I do?”
Julian just threw him a withering look and kept moving down the hallway.
Victor hurried to catch up. “Hold on, I need to talk to you about something.”

“If you can handle her for me, I’ll owe you one. Anything you want.”
“Handle who?” Victor asked, genuinely confused
Julian wasn’t making much sense, and Victor wasn’t following.

Wait a second. “You’re not talking about Lillian, are you? Man, I can’t help you with that. No way.”
Victor shut it down immediately. There was too much bad blood between Lillian and the Graves Pack–lives had been lost. How was he supposed to fix any of that?
At Victor’s refusal, Julian’s stare turned glacial.
Victor felt a chill under that gaze. “You… can’t handle her either, can you?”
Julian’s already stormy expression darkened further.
For an Alpha, admitting he couldn’t manage his own mate–or ex–mate–was basically admitting incompetence.
And when it came to Lillian… he was powerless.
It wasn’t about winning her favor anymore. It wasn’t even about reconciliation.
She was completely beyond his control now.
Seeing Julian’s silence, Victor knew he’d hit a nerve. “Look, no offense, but you kinda brought this on yourself.”
The temperature around Julian seemed to drop another ten degrees.
Victor pressed on carefully. “After everything that’s gone down lately… You don’t still believe she had anything to do with Iris‘ pup, do you?”
He’d been drunk the other night, but now he was sober.
If Julian was still holding that against Lillian, then there really was nothing left to say.
“There are things more complicated than the pup now.”
“Yeah, I know,” Victor replied. “It’s not about you accusing her anymore. It’s about her coming for you, isn’t it?”
Julian said nothing.
Exactly.

Now that Lillian was back under the Graves roof she was the one on the offensive.
The elevator arrived with a soft ding.
Julian stepped inside, and Victor followed. “So how bad is it? What’s she doing now?”
“Did your father work you so hard your brain shut down?” Julian snapped.

With everything that had happened in the city today, Victor was clearly out of the loop.
“Yeah, I’ve been swamped,” Victor admitted. “Dad’s rushing to hand over the company. He’s desperate to retire.”
If it were up to him, Victor wouldn’t take the reins at all. The idea of being chained to a desk like Julian, with no time for a life–or a date–was depressing.
When the elevator reached the lobby, they ran into Wendy returning from an errand.
The moment Victor spotted her, his eyes softened noticeably.
But Wendy… when she saw him standing next to Julian, she let out a quiet, dismissive snort.
It was too soft for Julian to hear, but Victor caught it.
That Omega…
Julian strode straight across the marble lobby toward the exit. Victor trailed behind, and as he passed Wendy, he tried to catch her eye.
She simply turned her face away, nose in the air
Victor sighed inwardly and hurried after Julian.
Just as Julian reached his black sedan and pulled open the driver’s door, Victor moved to get in on the passenger side.
