Everyone in Gilneas City said Margaret absolutely spoiled Iris, treated her like her own perfect little princess–but the truth was, Iris could spend freely, yet barely held any real assets in her own name.
Her property only began to grow slowly after she married into the Graves Pack.
Those were things she’d always longed for, things she’d scraped and fought to obtain.
And now, Lillian had burned every last bit of it to ashes.
That woman was vicious.
Watching Eleanor and Hilda losing their minds, Lillian simply said, coolly, “Got proof?”
“What proof do we need? Who else would do this to us but you?”
“And why would I want to do this to you?”
Her tone grew sharper.
Fine–if they wanted to talk about motive, she’d lay it all out right in front of her son. Let him hear everything.
Wasn’t Eleanor always acting the perfect mother in front of Julian?
One played the perfect mom, another the perfect sister–in–law, the other the perfect little sister.
Today, she was going to rip off every one of those fake masks.
The edge in Lillian’s voice was unmistakable.
Even Julian turned to look at Hilda and Eleanor
Eleanor fell silent.
Lillian went on, “People don’t do things without a reason, right? What reason would I have to burn your estate down?”
Eleanor stayed quiet.
Hilda didn’t speak either.

Why? No one knew better than them. Because they’d treated her like trash.
But that was just… hardship, wasn’t it? Was it really worth all this?
Did she have to come at them so brutally?
And now she’d destroyed so much of what they owned…
The tension thickened.
Julian raised a brow. “Yeah. Why would she burn your place down?”
His voice was light, yet carried a quiet weight.
Eleanor was breathing heavily.
Hilda kept her lips sealed.

Just as Lillian was about to spell it out plainly, Iris–who hadn’t spoken until now–finally spoke up. “Because of me.”
Eleanor and Hilda both turned to her.
Julian’s cold gaze shifted to Iris as well.
But Iris kept her eyes fixed on Lillian. “You’re angry because Julian’s been looking out for me. Isn’t that what you’ve been fighting about this whole time?
“It’s my fault, everyone. I’m sorry. I haven’t been right since Ethan died. I keep getting confused… treating Julian like he’s Ethan. I’m the one to blame.”
Iris took all the blame onto herself.
Lillian just laughed.
A fake sweetheart like her always loved playing the martyr when it counted. Acting all pitiful and helpless like that was far more dangerous than any tough act.
And far more disgusting.
Lillian said, “No, how could it be your fault? The real problem is that Eleanor here didn’t have enough pups.
“If you ask me, twins weren’t enough. She should’ve had triplets. Quadruplets. Quintuplets. Then you’d have had plenty of brothers fawning all over you.”
Eleanor lost it. “What did you just say, you little bitch?”

Lillian replied, “Did I say something wrong? Aren’t you kicking yourself for not giving Iris more brothers?
“More sons means you’d only need one daughter–in–law. So much simpler.”
Eleanor spat, “You–you vile little-”
She was about to explode.
But Lillian didn’t appreciate being called a bitch again and again.
She shot a look toward George. He gave a slight nod and signaled to one of the staff.
The staff member understood immediately, stepped forward, and slapped Eleanor hard across the face.
The crack echoed in the tense air.
Everything seemed to freeze.
Eleanor stared at Lillian in disbelief. She couldn’t wrap her head around it.
Hilda and Iris were stunned into silence.
Even Julian’s fingers tightened slightly around the cigarette he was holding.
Eleanor pointed a trembling finger at Lillian. “You–how dare you-”
