Chapter 39 Finn’s Dangerous Favor

Not far away, Finn sat in the back of a Maybach, eyes closed, resting. He had that air about him–distant, untouchable, but with something almost elegant underneath.
The driver up front spoke quietly, “Alpha. Julian’s gone.”
At that, Finn’s cool eyes opened.
He locked toward Lillian, still standing in the rain under that black umbrella. His fingers adjusted the gold–rimmed glasses on his face.
“When did he leave?”
“Just now. Lillian got a call right after–didn’t look good afterward. Probably Margaret, or someone else from the Graves Pack.”
Over the past couple of days, Lillian had torched whatever was left between her and that pack.
Going after Iris like that? It was a direct challenge to Margaret too.
The driver added, “Iris is threatening to jump. Off the hospital roof.”
Something flickered in Finn’s eyes at that–just for a second, there and gone.
When he looked back at Lillian, standing there alone in the rain with that black umbrella, she looked… small. Pitiful, almost.
Lillian’s POV:
I’d just pulled out my phone to call George.
Then a sleek Maybach pulled up right in front of me. The door opened, and he stepped out.
Finn.
impeccable suit. Gold–rimmed glasses that somehow softened the cold edge of him–but not by much. His eyes were still too cold. Like something divine standing under a moonlit sky, untouchable.
A ridiculous thought crossed my mind: what would it take to knock an Alpha like this off his pedestal? What would he look like, dragged down by someone?
But that wasn’t the point. What was he doing here?
“Mr. Livingston.”
My thoughts might’ve wandered, but my voice stayed polite.
To me, Finn was the hardest person to read out of everyone around Julian. It was strange, really–Julian, with his reckless, burning energy, being close friends with someone so controlled, so cold.
Rain slid from Finn’s hair onto his shoulders.

He stepped closer.
My umbrella was big enough. It covered him easily.
But I still stepped back. Instinct. “Mr. Livingston, I-”
He looked at me. “Left behind again?”
I froze.
That word–again–landed wrong. Being left behind because of another woman? It stung. More than I wanted to admit.
Finn said, “I’ll give you a ride.”
He turned and held the door open wider.
I shook my head. “That’s okay. Someone’s coming for me.”
The moment the words left my mouth, he looked back at me. Something shifted behind those glasses–hard to read, but there.
I tried calling George again. Nothing. The call wouldn’t go through.
Then the wind hit me, cold and sharp. A chill from the miscarriage settled deep in my bones.
“Thank you,” I said finally. “I appreciate it.”
The cold was giving me a headache. I just wanted to get back.
I got in.
Finn slid in beside me, shrugging off his rain–damp coat. The car smelled like ambergris–warm, heavy. It made my head feel fuzzy.
Julian had spent half the day fighting with me over Finn. Accusing me. Pushing.
I glanced at him. “About today… I’m sorry.”
I figured Julian, probably with Iris whispering in his ear, had seen George–a Draenei face he didn’t recognize–and jumped to conclusions. Assumed I was tangled up with Finn somehow.
My brother’s situation… I wasn’t ready for Julian to know about that yet.
So an apology to Finn was the least I could offer.
Finn looked down at me, side–eyed. Behind those lenses, his gaze was deep. Unreadable.
“It’s fine,” he said. “The evidence that Iris plagiarized your Moonvale Eco–Community project–I’ll have someone send it to Ivy & Crown Jewelry.”
My head snapped toward him.
Ivy & Crown Jewelry.
Those three words hit me like a shock. That was my first jewelry design studio. The one under my name. It had put out some of the most successful high–end pieces in the city.

It was also my favorite place to be. The one spot that felt like mine. How did Finn know about it?
If Finn knew… did Julian?
He must’ve seen it on my face. A faint smile touched his lips. “Don’t worry. Julian doesn’t know.”
That didn’t relax me. If anything, my heart slammed harder.
“You… Why are you helping me?”
Not telling Julian I owned Ivy & Crown. And now offering me proof that Iris stole my work?
He was Julian’s closest friend. They’d been tight for years.
The look behind those glasses gave nothing away. I couldn’t read him at all.
If it were Victor helping me like this, I wouldn’t question it. But Finn?
He straightened, lacing his long fingers together. Didn’t answer my question directly.

Instead, he said, “Or I could have Paul deliver it to LifeSpring Biotech. You’ll probably be spending a lot of time there soon.”
I went still again.
He knew about the biotech company too? Even Victor didn’t know about that one. I’d kept it quiet, especially from anyone tied to Julian.
The research there was at a critical stage. And with someone like Margaret out there–unhinged, powerful, willing to do anything for Iris–I wasn’t about to hand her a target.
I stared at him, speechless.
Finn asked, “Which address?”
His tone stayed even. Serious. No hidden meaning I could catch.
I sat up straighter, voice flat. “The studio.”
He still hadn’t explained why he was helping. But evidence against Iris? I’d take that favor and ask questions later.
