Third–Person POV:

Margaret’s thin lips pressed together tightly. The deep crimson of her lipstick looked especially cold and sharp in that moment.
She adjusted her expensive tweed jacket in that deliberate way she had and let out a cold laugh. “Of course she needs to be dealt with.
“I already sent people to trash that apartment she bought on Galaxy Road.”
Iris asked, “She has a place on Galaxy Road?”
Hearing that Lillian had bought her own apartment, Iris‘ voice dripped with disdain.
All that talk about not wanting pack money, and she still used his funds to buy property?
Margaret, her nails painted a blood–red, ran her fingers over the agate bracelet on her wrist.
She didn’t answer Iris‘ question. She just said, “Tonight’s just a little taste of what’s coming.”
Tomorrow was when things would really start.
And Lillian only had one chance. She’d better understand what tonight’s little warning was supposed to tell her.
Hearing that, Iris felt a wave of satisfaction wash over her. “And what if she ignores your warning tomorrow?”
With her mother beside her, Iris immediately felt like she had someone to lean on.
Lillian–some orphaned Omega with no family, no backing–dared to come after her like this?
This time, she’d see how tough Lillian could act when she was up against her mother.
Iris knew exactly what her mother was capable of.
Lillian was going to pay for everything she’d done the past two days.
Sure enough, the next moment, Margaret’s eyes narrowed. “Then I’ll have no choice but to stop caring whether she lives or dies.”
Her fingers stopped turning the agate beads, and her gaze went sharp as a blade.
Iris felt even more satisfied.
If there was one thing about Lillian lately, it was that she’d grown a hell of a spine. Iris couldn’t wait to see her mother tear her apart tomorrow.
Especially right now.
Lillian had probably already heard about her apartment getting trashed.
Seeing the escape route she’d set up for when she finally left Julian destroyed–she was probably sitting in the middle of all that wreckage crying right now, wasn’t she?

Chapter 53 Margaret’s Conspiracy
The more Iris thought about it, the more that petty satisfaction–finally getting one back on Lillian–swelled in her chest.
“And Julian, Mom, I…”
The moment she mentioned Julian, the satisfaction Iris had been feeling evaporated.
For the past six months, Julian had been glued to her side.
She’d always told herself that meant something. That he felt something for her too. But the way he’d been acting toward Lillian these past few days? It was giving her a crisis she’d never felt before.
Margaret’s eyes went cold. “We can’t rush things with Julian. Lillian comes first.”
Iris nodded. “Okay. Lillian first, like you said.”
With her mother here, Iris suddenly felt like she had solid ground under her feet again.
She was about to say something else-
The ringtone from Margaret’s bag cut her off. Margaret reached in, pulled out her phone, glanced at the screen, and answered.
‘Marcus.”
Her assistant.
Marcus‘ voice came through, heavy. “Alpha, there’s a fire at Harborview Towers.”
‘What?”
Margaret shot up from her chair.
She stood so fast the chair behind her toppled over with a loud crack.
Her face went pale. Her grip on the phone tightened. “What happened?”
Marcus said, “Cause is still under investigation, but the fire spread too fast. Building management couldn’t contain it. Fire department’s on the way now.”
The penthouse at Harborview Towers had always been one of her greatest accomplishments.
A she–wolf, raising a pup alone, fighting her way into a place that symbolized the top of the food chain.
Whenever she was in Gilneas City, that was where she stayed.
But tonight–right after she’d gotten back to town, before she’d even set foot in the place it caught fire. Coincidence? Or deliberate?
Margaret’s whole body trembled with rage. “How bad is it that they couldn’t get it under control?”
So many of her important documents were in that penthouse. Valuables. Jewelry.
Hearing that the fire was out of control, Margaret could feel her blood pressure spiking.
Marcus said, “It’s a major blaze. Building management’s doing everything they can.”
