“Send someone to Lillian’s hospital room and replace Finn’s people,” I said, my voice tight with

restraint.

Honestly, what did Lillian have to do with Finn? Did he need his own people watching over her in the hospital?

Thomas replied, “Understood, I’ll arrange it right away.”

I hung up the call.

Rubbing my throbbing temples, I heard a knock at the door a short while later. It was another assistant from outside.

A young, sweet–faced female secretary said respectfully, “Alpha Julian, Mr. Webb is here.”

Seeing an unfamiliar female secretary, my brow furrowed. Didn’t Thomas know that the Alpha’s executive suite didn’t use female secretaries?

Liam stepped out from behind the secretary. “Julian.”

“Come in.”

Since Liam was here, I let it go for now.

Liam entered, and the sweet–faced secretary closed the door respectfully behind him. He walked over to me carrying a file.

He sat down across from me and handed me the file. “My grandfather asked me to bring this. Take a look.”

I scoffed. “Your grandfather is quite cunning.”

Liam said, “He’s just counting on our friendship, hoping for special treatment from you.”

My face darkened immediately.

All my pack members knew my rules. So before I could even speak, Liam added, “Don’t worry about my feelings. Handle it however you see fit. I just wanted my grandfather to know I came by.”

I asked, “That direct? Aren’t you afraid he’ll punish you for it?”

Liam shrugged. “Haven’t I been punished enough by him over the years? One more time won’t make a difference!”

That was his grandfather’s problem. Instead of focusing on improving the pack’s productivity, he always messed around with these underhanded tactics.

I lit a cigarette and slid the pack directly toward Liam.

Liam could see how agitated I was. “What’s wrong? Is Lillian being particularly hard to win over this time?”

was a hint of teasing in Liam’s tone. I knew what my pack members thought–that I’d ded with Lillian precisely because she had no pack background, was easy to control, and was docile and obedient.

At the mention of Finn, Liam’s expression stiffened slightly.

He’d heard too–how Finn had flown back from a neighboring city early this morning to rescue Lillian at Inkwood Gardens!

That attitude… was definitely not normal.

Not to mention, Finn’s methods were no less formidable than Julian’s.

There was no denying it now–with Finn’s current attitude toward Lillian, Julian had truly hit a hard wall.

Seeing Liam fall silent, Julian’s eyes grew even colder. “What? You think there’s a problem too?”

Liam asked, “Do you want the honest truth?”

Julian said, “Go ahead.”

The atmosphere in the office instantly plunged into an icy chill.

Julian’s expression turned dark and terrifying.

“I haven’t been good to her?”

Hearing someone say he hadn’t been good to Lillian suddenly filled Julian with anger.

How had he not been good to her?

Hadn’t he bought her all sorts of nice things over the years? Whenever he traveled, hadn’t he always thought to bring her something?

Wait… the things he’d bought her… At this thought, Julian’s face grew even gloomier.

Liam said, “Women need genuine attention, not just going through the motions.”

Julian retorted, “You think I’ve just been going through the motions with her?”

Liam backpedaled, “I didn’t say that.”

Seeing Julian’s expression worsen, Liam hardly dared to accuse him of being insincere.

Liam added, “But Lillian is accepting Finn’s care now, isn’t she?”

He personally felt Finn’s actions were inappropriate, given that Lillian and Julian were still officially mated.

But the fact that Finn was now disregarding that completely represented the greatest crisis for Julian.

Julian’s expression grew darker by the second!

Liam continued, “I heard everything from Victor about what happened at Inkwood Gardens this morning. How come it wasn’t you who took Lillian to the hospital?”

That question hit the mark with painful precision!

He’d been right here in Gilneas City. Yet, while he was distracted by Iris leaving, Finn had

After Liam left, Julian couldn’t sit still any longer. Instead of calling Thomas again, he disregarded the remaining half of his meeting, got in his car, and drove straight to the hospital.

Lillian was preparing to be discharged.

When Julian arrived, he saw the people Thomas had sent being blocked outside the hospital room by Finn’s men.

Furious, Julian stepped forward and punched two of the bodyguards!

Hearing the commotion inside the room, Lillian looked at George, who reported, “It’s Alpha Julian.”

Hearing it was Julian, Lillian’s expression darkened further.

She glanced at George. “Let him in.”

She was heading back to Starfall Mountain soon, and likely wouldn’t be allowed out for the

next week or so.

She had just gotten off the phone with Edmund.

On the call, the man’s scolding tone had been laced with affection, telling her that if she dared go out again without permission, he would shut down her biotech company and her studio.

Lillian could hardly bear the thought–those were her life’s work.

George nodded. “Yes.”

Julian had been fuming the whole way there, compounded by what Liam had said in the office.

Especially that line-“Lillian is accepting Finn’s care now“. Hearing that wasn’t just irritating.

It was downright gut–wrenching!

He reached out to take Lillian’s hand, but she smoothly avoided his touch.

Julian’s expression turned even stormier. “What? Don’t want to go home?”

“Home? Julian, are you joking? If that were really my home, could I have almost died there today?”

Julian fell silent.

Lillian continued, “And right under your watch, no less. How could I dare

back…”

“This morning was an accident,” Julian cut her off.

He had no defense for what happened that morning, and he didn’t want to discuss it further now. But after this close call, he’d be even more vigilant about protecting her going forward.

Lillian said, “One accident almost cost me my life. I don’t want to risk it happening again.”

“It won’t,” Julian insisted.

“I don’t trust my life in the hands of someone like you.”

No matter what Julian said now, Lillian always had a sharp retort ready.

It infuriated him, yet he couldn’t find the words to argue back.

He took several deep breaths.

Before he could speak, Lillian added, “After all, when I lost half my life, all I got from you was an ‘apology. If I lost all of it, I wouldn’t even get the chance to plead my case.”

“I told you, nothing like that will-”

“I told you, I don’t trust you!”

Julian’s angry outburst was cut short once again by Lillian.

Her firm “I don’t trust you” hung heavily in the quiet room.

Julian stared at her, breathing heavily. “Then what do you want?”

He asked through clenched teeth, but Lillian answered just as firmly.

Only then did Julian truly believe that Lillian wasn’t just joking about dissolving their mate bond.

He was now convinced that something had developed between Lillian and Finn.

His heart raced wildly.

Trembling with anger, Julian balled his hands into fists. “Forget about dissolving the mate bond. It’s not happening.

“Thomas is already handling the paperwork. I’d advise you to stop this now.”

This time, Lillian didn’t respond. She just watched him calmly.

Right then, Lillian’s phone rang. She pulled it out and glanced at the screen–it was a call from Margaret.

Before she could answer, Julian snatched the phone and answered it himself.

He thought it was Finn calling.

Just as he was about to shout into the receiver, Margaret’s voice came through first, tight with restrained fury. “You did this, didn’t you?”
