Just as I was about to get in, over a dozen bodyguards suddenly swarmed in from everywhere, completely surrounding our vehicle. I recognized the one leading them–he was the same guard who always accompanied Julian to the major Alpha summits.

George’s face went dark, and his hand immediately moved to the weapon holstered at his hip.

Finn’s men tensed up instantly.

The air between the two sides turned razor–sharp.

The lead bodyguard stepped forward and addressed me. “Luna, the Alpha ordered us to escort you back to Inkwood Gardens.”

“And if I say no?”

“Luna, please don’t make this difficult for us.” His tone was flat, rehearsed.

George cut in. “Miss, we don’t need to waste words with them.”

I held up a hand, stopping whatever George was about to say next.

My eyes stayed locked on the lead bodyguard, cold and hard. He added, “After all, you and the Alpha are still mated.”

I let out a short, humorless laugh at that.

Third–Person POV:

The standoff dragged on.

Then Julian showed up.

His face was a thundercloud. He shoved George aside and reached for Lillian’s arm.

George was faster. He slammed Julian back hard.

He stumbled backward into his own guards, and the temperature in the garage dropped another ten degrees.

George already had his gun out, barrel aimed square at Julian’s chest.

Alpha Julian. Step aside.”

Julian’s eyes flickered with something dangerous as he stared down the barrel. “What are you waiting for? Take them.”

Did this guy have any idea who he was dealing with in Gilneas City?

At his command, everything exploded.

George and Finn’s men were only three against Julian’s dozen. It was obvious Julian had come prepared to take Lillian back today, no matter what.

The parking garage descended into chaos.

Lillian’s POV:

I watched Julian with eyes like ice.

He strode over, scooped me out of the wheelchair without a word, and carried me straight to his car.

By the time we got back to Inkwood Gardens, it was already four in the afternoon.

I hadn’t said a single word to Julian the whole time.

He must have learned something from this morning’s disaster, because this time he didn’t dare just throw together any random food for me.

He immediately had Thomas track down three nutritionists specifically to handle my meals.

When the head nutritionist approached me and said, “Good afternoon, Luna. I’m Vanessa Cole. Luna Catherine personally instructed us to take excellent care of you. Please let us know whatever you’d like to eat.”

frown.

That was strange. What was she doing getting involved? She was supposed to be recuperating at some remote wellness retreat. Couldn’t she just stay out of it?

Vanessa dipped her head slightly at my words. “Luna, you’re too kind. Luna Catherine entrusted us with your care. It’s truly no trouble at all.”

1 ignored her after that and fixed my gaze squarely on Julian.

The tension radiating off him was suffocating.

Julian hadn’t expected the nutritionists he’d scrambled to find would all end up being sent by his grandmother.

In the end, he chased them out.

But the damage was already done. The unease in Lillian’s heart wasn’t going anywhere.

Julian called Thomas immediately, his voice sharp and brutal over the phone. “If you can’t even handle something this simple without screwing it up, you can get the hell out of the

Pack.”

Thomas answered carefully. “You mean the nutritionists? Luna Catherine caught wind that you were looking for some and insisted on providing them herself.”

Even Thomas found himself in a tight spot.

Julian demanded, “She’s all the way out in Cloudcrest City. How did she even find out about
