She unlocked her phone and checked the recent calls. Besides a few from Natasha, the rest of the Hills were completely silent. She’d been gone all this time, and not one of them had texted her.
Zera did as Anna said and went back to the Hill Estate.
When Natasha saw her come in, she jumped up, excited. “Zera, you’re finally back!”
Lilian hurriedly told Thomas, “Now that she’s home, tell the kids to stop looking for her.”
Before Zera could apologize, they both sighed and went back to their rooms.
Zera swallowed her feelings and held herself together.
She turned to Natasha with a wronged look. “I’m sorry, Grandma. Dad and Mom only scolded me for my own good. I shouldn’t have run off and made everyone worry. I know I was wrong.”
Natasha nodded with relief.
“After
you ran off, your brothers and Sophia all went out searching for you nonstop. Even Aurelia took the initiative to look for you. Everybody cares about you, so I’m glad you understand that.”
Zera quickly said, “I’m sorry, Grandma. It was my fault. I’ll cook dinner tonight to apologize to everyone.”
She sweetly went to the kitchen, but on the inside, she was thrilled.
In the end, Natasha’s word was law in the Hill family.
No matter how much they disliked her, as long as Natasha spoke up, they all had to go out and look for her.
Since everyone had spent the whole day searching for her, she would just have to be gracious enough to cook them dinner.
Once she was done, Zera called everyone to eat. Natasha praised her over and over for being so sensible.
Lilian said she wasn’t feeling well and would skip dinner.
Zera said to Thomas, “Dad, I chilled some red wine for you. Maybe you could eat just a little?”

Thomas replied, “Your mom’s still sick. How could I possibly eat?”
Hearing that, Zera had no choice but to leave their room.
Right then, the Hill siblings and Sophia all came back together.

Putting on her most sincere face, Zera went up to them. “Michael, Sophia, Lysander, Daniel, Aurelia, I made dinner for you. Go wash up and come eat.”
Sophia leaned into her husband. “Honey, my feet are killing me from walking all day.”
Michael comforted her, “Let’s just go upstairs and rest instead. We’ll skip dinner.”
Zera glanced nervously at Lysander.
But before she could say anything, Lysander said, “Zera, Grandma treats you like her biological granddaughter, and Dad and Mom have always warned us to take care of you like you’re their real daughter. But after all that, you’re still keeping your distance from the family!”
Hearing his accusation, Zera felt a pang of anxiety. “Lysander, I really don’t know what you mean.”
Lysander pointed at her and said, “When Dad and Mom scold us, we don’t even breathe too loudly, afraid to upset them more. But you? They only scolded you for a bit, and you stormed out of the house. You’ve never treated Dad and Mom as your own parents!”
Lysander continued, “We spent the whole day out looking for you with nothing to eat or drink. Sophia’s feet are all blistered. And you didn’t even call home. You just don’t care about us at all!”
Zera hurried to explain and apologize, “I’m sorry, Lysander, I know I messed up. I promise it won’t happen again!”
On the outside, she acted timid and obedient. But inside, she was actually quite pleased.
So that was why they were mad.
No matter how much they disliked her, once she left home, Natasha could still make them all drop everything and go looking for her.
Daniel, leading Aurelia, gave Zera a stern look. “We’re exhausted. We’ll skip dinner. You should reflect on what you’ve done.”
Since nobody was willing to eat the food she made, Zera had no choice but to quietly leave.

As soon as she left, the Hill siblings slipped into their parents‘ room.
They all pulled food out from under their coats.
Michael locked the door.
Sophia opened her bag. “Dad, Mom, come on, these skewers are fresh off the grill.”
Lysander unwrapped a bucket. “There’s a drumstick missing from the family meal. Aurelia ate it on the way home.”
Daniel popped open two pizza boxes. “Here’s the pizza you asked for. Extra onions.”
Aurelia handed out two bottles of soda. “Dad, Mom, have some soda.”
Lilian glanced at Michael by the door. “Keep that door locked and don’t let anyone in.”
Michael nodded. “Don’t worry. It’s locked.”
So the parents had a feast at the table in the sitting room.
Michael stood guard, Lysander lounged on the couch playing games, Daniel was lost in thought at Mom’s vanity, while Sophia and Aurelia kept snacking.
Halfway through his skewer, Thomas finally thought to ask, “Did you all get something to eat?”
Sophia, licking chicken off her fingers, said, “You two eat up. We already had dinner.”
Thomas and Lilian both just grunted and kept eating.
Sophia said, “Mom, Zera’s reputation is just so bad. Are you really planning to keep her around?”
Lilian waved her off. “Don’t bring her up while we’re eating. It’ll ruin my appetite.”
