Before Aella could refuse, Clyde grabbed Tyrone’s arm, absolutely thrilled. “Tyrone! I have a math Olympiad problem I can’t solve, teach me! I’ll ask my mom to cook something really good for you!”
Tyrone looked at Aella. “Is that alright?”
Aella hesitated, then nodded.
Clyde hadn’t seen Tyrone in days and had already mentioned him a thousand times.
Even if she refused, Clyde would still follow Tyrone.
Tyrone’s gaze shifted briefly between Daniel and Aella.
“I’ll go get the car.”
Clyde happily trotted after him. “Tyrone, I’ll go with you!”
Daniel watched them leave, his tone tinged with envy. “Clyde seems to really like Mr. Winter.”
Aella didn’t answer the question directly. “Daniel I’m heading out.”
Daniel didn’t press further.
When Aella’s parents saw their son and daughter come home with Tyrone, they lit up with pure joy.
Miriam immediately nudged Warren. “Tyrone’s here, go add two more dishes!”
Tyrone lowered his posture politely. “No need. I’ll eat whatever you’re eating.”
Clyde dragged Tyrone toward his room. “Mom! Don’t forget to make ribs for me and Tyrone!”
Miriam replied instantly, “Alright, alright, I’ll make them right now!”
Aella watched Clyde cling affectionately to Tyrone’s arm as they disappeared down the hallway, her parents happily bustling in the kitchen. It left her with a complicated feeling she couldn’t quite describe.
She washed her hands and went to help in the kitchen.

During dinner, the Winter Estate called to ask Tyrone to come home for the meal, but he didn’t leave.
After dinner, Tyrone stayed to play two rounds of chess with Warren before finally heading
out.
Aella walked him downstairs. “At the hospital earlier, you said you needed to talk to me about something?”
Tyrone looked at Aella’s small face and admitted honestly, “I hadn’t seen you in days. I just wanted to have dinner with you.”
He hadn’t expected much, then Clyde appeared.
It had been a long time since he’d eaten with the Reids.
Tonight, he was genuinely happy.
Aella lifted her eyes and met his. “You were the one who told Daniel to send me on that trip, right?”
Tyrone didn’t answer directly. “Did he tell you that?”
Aella shook her head. “Daniel didn’t say anything.”
The academic exchange in Qruledo had been empty, no real content at all. She’d basically wasted a few days there.
When she called Daniel hoping to return early, he refused, which was unlike him.
After everything she’d heard from Raine, she was certain Tyrone had asked Daniel to send her out of Vleka.
Tyrone looked at her with a careful, gentle gaze. ‘I didn’t want you caught up in all that ugliness.”
Their eyes met.
Aella said softly, “Tyrone … thank you.”
Tyrone felt warmth rise in his chest and reached out to hold her hand.
Aella frowned slightly.
She raised her eyes to him again.
Slowly, Tyrone loosened his grip, and the light in his eyes dimmed bit by bit.

Aella said, “Drive slowly. Text me when you get home.”
No matter what Tyrone did, she wouldn’t be moved, and she wasn’t going back.
Tyrone stood frozen in place, watching her step into the elevator.

His hand, still remembering the warmth of hers, hung awkwardly midair. He felt a wave of
regret.
He shouldn’t have acted so impulsively.
For Tyrone, the fact that Aella still allowed him to step into the Reid Residence, even to eat with her family, was already the greatest blessing he could ask for.
Her reminder to drive safely had been polite courtesy.
And even if there had been a trace of genuine concern, it had nothing to do with love.
He shouldn’t have been greedy enough to want more.
Late that night in Bluehaven, Brad leaned against the Winters‘ front door, waiting as Tyrone stepped out of the elevator.
They entered the house together.
Tyrone took off his coat and collapsed onto the couch, exhausted. “Why are you waiting for me in the middle of the night?”
Brad stared at him. “You went to the Reid Residence tonight, didn’t you?”
Tyrone shot him a glance. “If you’re this bored, hurry up and marry Raine so you can go home and raise kids.”
Brad sat beside him. “Oh, I’ll have kids sooner or later. But you? Whether you’ll ever have one is a big question.”
Tyrone shoved him away in disgust and moved to sit across from him.
Brad didn’t mind. “Zera and Anna are dead, the Caldwells have left Vleka, the Cunninghams collapsed, the Guineveres backed off … everything wrapped up neatly. All of it was under your control, wasn’t it?”
Tyrone poured two glasses of wine and handed one to Brad. “You’re overthinking it.”
He didn’t admit it, but he didn’t deny it either. Brad didn’t press further.

Brad set down his glass. “Want me to arrange something? Help you and Aella get a little closer?”
Tyrone tightened his fingers around his wineglass. “No.”
Feelings couldn’t be engineered.
Once, he had used every means he could think of to keep Aella by his side, to salvage that broken, bleeding marriage.
