Aella blinked, confused. “What?”

Tyrone gripped her shoulders, looking almost panicked. After a moment, he forced himself to continue, “In that dream, I hurt you because of Zera.”
Aella’s brows drew together. “And?”
“And you left me,” Tyrone said. “You were heartbroken. For two lifetimes, you never forgave me.”
Aella studied him, her expression turning serious. “If you ever betray me in this life, I won’t forgive you either.”
Tyrone closed his eyes, pain tightening his features. “You’re not even going to ask what I did to you in the dream?”
Aella suddenly laughed. “You just said it was a dream. Why would I ask?” She shrugged casually, and it felt almost cruel to him. “Besides, dreams are backwards anyway. If you’re telling me it was awful, obviously I don’t want to hear about it so I can torture myself.”
Her voice softened. “I believe you, Tyrone. My taste can’t be that bad.”
They held each other’s gaze, and something flickered through Tyrone’s eve
Two lives ago, she’d chosen him with that same stubborn certainty. And he’d let her lose everything.
His restraint slipped. He pulled her close, holding her too tightly. His voice broke. “If I really did something unforgivable in the last
life or the one before that, would you still want to be with me in this one?” OL

Aella let him hold her. She closed her eyes and felt how low his mood had fallen and how shaken he was. She lifted a hand and traced his brows and lashes. Her fingertips touched the dampness at the corner of his eye.
She murmured, “Tyrone, if you wronged

another life, make it up to me in this one. Love me better. Love me more.”

Without a word, Tyrone tightened his arms around her. He lowered his head and kissed her forehead. Inside, everything tangled into an unravelable knot.
If Aella never remembered, they could be happy. But if she ever did remember, she wouldn’t be speaking so calmly. Whatever waited for them then would still be a dead end.
Just then, Aella’s phone lit up.
It was Miriam, texting to say that she had made food for the two of them and was about to bring it over. The thought warmed Tyrone, and for a moment, he almost couldn’t breathe.
“Don’t make them come all the way,” he said. “I’ll go pick it up.”
Aella gently pushed him back down and stood up. “Your head still isn’t healed. You stay here and rest. I’ll go back by myself and talk to my parents, too.”
Tyrone hesitated, but didn’t stop her. He called a Winter Estate driver to take her to the Reids.

After everything that had happened at the engagement, her parents hadn’t said much, but they must be worried. It was probably for the best to let Aella go home and talk to them.
At noon, Aella returned to Reid Residence alone. Left alone in the quiet house, Tyrone grew restless and paced, unable to sit still. Finally, he called Brad.
When Brad arrived, he brought lunch with him. “Virginia had me drop some things off for the Reids. Aella was worried you’d starve, so she made me bring your food here first.”
Tyrone had no appetite. His thoughts were a mess. Still, hearing that it was from Aella, he opened the containers.
In the dining room, Brad sat across from him and frowned. “Zera and Shirley both showed up to wreck your engagement party. Did Aella fight with you?”
Tyrone shook his head, his fork hovering but not picking anything up.
Brad narrowed his eyes. “Then why do you look like you’re about to die?”
Tyrone set the fork down and looked Brad in the eye.
