Aella shook her head. “I already ate at school.”

Victor shot Tyrone a cold, annoyed look. “I told you we didn’t have to wait for her. You just wouldn’t listen.”

Because of that, he’d gone hungry for over an hour.

Victor headed to the dining room to eat, while Aella stayed in the living room, feeling stressed.

Her place was small to begin with, and Tyrone had dragged in a huge couch that took up nearly half the living room.

Aella looked at Tyrone. “We need to talk.”

Once the door closed, Aella sat at the vanity, rubbing her temples.

Tyrone sat on the padded bench at the foot of the bed.

I only promised your parents to wait one year before making it official because you once nearly died saving the Reid Group. I’ve already stopped expecting anything from you.

“But during this year, we live separately and don’t interfere with each other. I don’t need your care, and I don’t want your concern.

“Tyrone, you don’t get to step into my life or control it. I don’t want you staying here–not even for one day.”

Tyrone stood up and walked toward her.

He squatted in front of her and gently held her hands.

He could feel how firm her decision was.

He could also feel the pain she was forcing down.

His heart tightened. He gripped her hands harder and watched her eyes slowly turn red.

After struggling to move his lips, he finally said, “Uncle Victor is my elder, and he saved my life. Let me stay a few days to look after him. Once he’s better, I’ll leave right away. I’ll take everything I brought with me.”

Aella pulled her hands free and stood up.

She said, “If that’s the case, you can stay. But don’t interfere in my life anymore.”

She turned and walked away.

Her distance stabbed straight into Tyrone’s heart.

Aella let out a sneer and shoved him away.

She spoke slowly, each word sharp, “Back then, when you said you wanted to get engaged to me, you said it was for my own good.

“After you slept with me and had someone send me birth control pills that same night, you said it was for my own good.

“Just days after the engagement, you wanted to end it and said it was for my own good.

“And now you want me to kick out your uncle, and you still say it’s for my own good.”

With a self–mocking smile, she questioned him, “Tyrone, you knew how much I liked you and depended on you. You knew I gave you everything. When you called off the engagement, you didn’t hesitate at all. So how do you still have the nerve to say things like this now?!”

Her eyes turned red with anger.

She pointed at him. “Mr. Vic can stay. You have to leave!”

Aella turned and walked out.

Tyrone stood there dazed. He took the diamond engagement ring she had thrown away from his pocket and wiped it over and over on his sleeve.

His eyes were red as he stared at it, his chest aching badly.

Aella hid near the doorway, quietly watching him cradle the ring she’d tossed aside, his eyes rimmed red.
