Aella schooled her expression and looked Tyrone dead in the eye. Tyrone, I am not someone you can snap your fingers at and expect to come running, then toss aside whenever you feel like it. Even if you cried your eyes out right now, I still wouldn’t forgive you.

She liked Tyrone. She really did.

But she wasn’t an idiot.

When things were good, it was all sweet talk, and he was glued to her side.

When things got rough, he called off the engagement without a second thought about how she felt.

Getting back together?

Not a chance in hell.

Tyrone suddenly bent down, scooped Aella up, and carried her into the bedroom.

He set her down on her feet.

Before Aella could even find her balance, Tyrone said nothing and leaned in to kiss her.

The moment their lips met, both of them lost their breath at the same time.

The fire Tyrone had been suppressing for weeks roared to life somewhere deep inside him, and what started as a gentle kiss quickly turned into something far more urgent and consuming.

Aella was melting into the kiss, barely thinking straight, when she heard his breathless confession whispered against her earand it snapped her right back to reality.

Furious with herself for being so weak, Aella bit down hard on Tyrone’s tongue.

Sss-

The sting of pain finally brought him to a reluctant stop.

Staring into Aella’s angry eyes, her lips still glistening from his kiss, Tyrone fought with everything he had to keep his composure.

He’d only meant to steal one quick kiss. He hadn’t expected it to spiral so far out of control.

Tyrone looked away and turned toward the walkin closet.

A moment later he came back out with a set of pajamas and a towel.

He said, All your clothes are still in the closet. Take a shower and get some rest.

Aella held out her palm. Give me back my phone.

Tyrone obediently returned the phone.

Aella glanced at the bed behind her. You’re sleeping on the couch.

Tyrone silently picked up a pillow from the bed, turned, and walked out of the bedroom.

Aella locked the door behind him.

Leaning against the door, Aella took one deep breath after another.

Her mind kept replaying the kiss over and over, along with every word Tyrone had said to her tonight.

When he’d burst into that room and pulled her into his arms, she had felt his arms trembling around her.

She had felt his heart pounding wildly against her chest.

When he said he regretted everything, when he said he would never let her go again, his eyes had been so full of emotion and his voice so certain.

And the way he’d held her in his arms while she fought and kicked and cursed at himso patient, so impossibly gentle.

Aella clenched her small fists and thumped them against her own chest in frustration.

She mimicked her parentstone and scolded herself. Aella, have some selfrespect!

Don’t spoil a man. The more you let them get away with, the worse they get.

Everything had been fine, and then out of nowhere he’d wanted to call off the engagement. She couldn’t just let that go.

Aella went into the bathroom, took a quick shower, changed into pajamas, and climbed into bed.

She had genuinely been terrified tonight by what Zach had tried to do.

Between that and a whole evening of wrestling with Tyrone, she was completely drained.

Aella turned off the lights and pulled the covers all the way over her head.

The world could endshe’d deal with it after she slept.

Out in the living room, Tyrone sat on the couch in a dark set of sleepwear.

He had a small mirror angled at his face in one hand and an ice pack in the other.

The doorbell rang, and Tyrone set everything down to answer it.

Brad poked his head in, and Tyrone turned away with a sour expression.

Brad wasn’t deterred and followed Tyrone into the living room.

He looked around, didn’t see Aella anywhere, and stood up to head toward the bedroombut Tyrone yanked him back by the arm.

Brad’s eyes landed on the small mirror and the ice pack on the coffee table, then traveled up to the handprint still glowing on Tyrone’s face, and he burst out laughing like a honking goose.
