“Caleb’s on it, Ms. Hale,” Chris said, starting the car. “He’s already on a flight overseas to start digging.”
Serena gave a slight nod, her posture elegant as she leaned back. “Good. To the Ashford mansion.”
She was desperate to see her son.
Chris pulled out onto the road.
Meanwhile, Miles Carter was on edge after what he’d discovered.
The thought of how contagious Eliana’s condition was made him finally understand why Serena had been so afraid of her.
Now, he was afraid too.
Just then, Dylan got into the car with Eliana.
Miles had been so focused on Eliana’s medical records that he’d missed all the drama online. All he could
think about was how to break the news to Dylan delicately.
Dylan settled into his seat, his movements fluid. He glanced at his dazed assistant. “Back to the mansion.”
Miles had worked for Dylan for years; he knew that icy tone meant Dylan was furious.
He couldn’t bring it up now.
‘Later,’ he decided. ‘I’ll tell him later.‘

At the Ashford mansion, Serena swept past the new butler, with Chris right behind her.
Beatrice had already seen the livestream. She’d been expecting Dylan to come home demanding answers, not for Serena to show up on her doorstep.
The moment Serena stepped inside, she saw Liam playing on the floor.
Liam looked up, and his eyes instantly filled with tears.
‘Is Mommy here to take me home?‘ he wondered.
Eliana hurt him all the time, and his back ached terribly.
Seeing the tears and the desperate plea in her son’s eyes shattered Serena’s heart.
Beatrice shot to her feet, her stomach clenching as she watched Serena’s gaze lock onto Liam.

She snapped at a maid, “Take Mr. Liam upstairs. He is not to set foot out of his room until our guest has left.”
Liam bit his lip and silently got to his feet, starting for the stairs on his own.
Serena noticed how stiff his back was, how carefully he moved.
Then, with a soft thud, he stumbled on a step, the pain in his back making him lose his balance.
A whimper escaped him. The pain was so sharp he couldn’t get up, no matter how hard he tried.
Suddenly, a familiar warmth enveloped him.
He looked up through his tears at the woman holding him–his mommy. He bit his lip hard, terrified he would accidentally call out to her.
Serena looked at his tear–streaked face and soothed him gently, “It’s okay, little one. Don’t cry. You just have to be more careful on the stairs.”
Liam seized the opportunity. “Ma’am, I remember you from last time. Could you take me upstairs?”
“Liam, what are you talking about? Get upstairs right now!” Beatrice thundered, glaring at Kate, the maid.
Kate hurried over and snatched Liam from Serena’s arms. “Thank you, miss, but he can be heavy. I’ll take
him.”
Serena turned to face Beatrice. “Mrs. Ashford, I think you know exactly why I’m here. I’ve taken a liking to this child. I’m going to take him upstairs, and when I come back down, we’re going to settle our accounts. I will be taking back every last thing the Ashford family owes me.”
Beatrice froze for a second, and Serena used the moment to take Liam back into her arms and head for the
stairs.
Chris stepped in front of Kate, a mocking smile on his face. “You know, for a prestigious family, the Ashfords have a funny way of treating their guests.
“Oh, but I forgot. Someone like Mrs. Ashford wouldn’t know the first thing about hospitality. She’s much better at buying people’s loyalty, isn’t she?”
Beatrice trembled with rage at Chris’s words.
She shouted up the stairs, “Bodyguards! Stop that bitch!”
Serena stopped short, eyeing the two large men blocking the top of the stairs. If a fight broke out, she was terrified Liam would get hurt.
Liam knew Beatrice was trying to keep him from his mother. He buried his face in her shoulder and whispered, “Mommy, when are you coming to save me? It hurts so much.”
