That wasn’t what he meant. Joseph Hayes had mentored many talented designers, and Dylan simply wanted an introduction.
“Stella, that’s not what I meant. I just…”
“Dylan, she’s just too embarrassed to admit it, so don’t push her,” Eliana cut in, her voice dripping with false
concern.
“Falcon Barclay just voiced a little suspicion and his reputation was ruined. It’s pretty clear something shady is going on between them, but it’s not our place to judge, is it?”
Dylan frowned at her. “Eliana, don’t just say things like that.”
“I’m not! It’s obvious they have an inappropriate…”
“Eliana.” Serena’s voice, as cold and sharp as shattering ice, cut her off.
Her expression was glacial. “Only someone with a mind as filthy as yours would assume everyone else is just as dirty. You and I were at the same competition years ago. I didn’t even know you then. I got a call that Dylan was in a car accident, and I dropped everything to go to him.
“If I hadn’t been the first one there, he wouldn’t have survived his injuries. He’s only standing here today because I gave him a dose of an experimental drug that cost a fortune.”
She then turned her icy gaze back to Eliana. “And you? After that competition, when you found out his family’s business had collapsed and he needed a liver transplant, you ran off with another man. Of course,” she added, glancing at Dylan, “you’ll never believe any of this. In your eyes, she’s flawless.”
Serena shot a final, ambiguous look at Eliana’s venomous face and turned to leave.
A cold smile touched her lips. She wasn’t going to hold back anymore.
And thanks to Beatrice Ashford, she now had the perfect reason to pay a visit to the mansion.
Dylan still had a thousand questions for Serena, but Eliana grabbed his arm.
“Dylan, look at her. Even now, she’s still trying to tear me down,” Eliana sniffled, playing the victim. “She’s said her piece, and now there’s nothing I can do but trust that you believe me.”
Dylan’s brow furrowed. He looked at Eliana, remembered the injuries she’d shown him, and pushed his doubts aside. Serena was probably just overreacting.
But her words echoed in his mind, stirring a deep, unsettling irritation. He had to fight the urge to go after her.
“Let’s go,” he said abruptly, striding away. “I have a lot to deal with at the office, but we’re making a stop at the

Eliana watched him go, biting her lip in frustration. Her plan had completely backfired.
That old fool Joseph Hayes, fawning over Stella’s designs.
Damn Stella, always getting in her way.
Now, her only hope was Beatrice.

When Serena got back in the car, Chris Maddox was practically bouncing in his seat, grinning like a kid on Christmas morning.
