“Serena is no tech genius,” Beatrice scoffed. “Once the story gains traction online, I’ll just delete my tracks. How will she ever trace the rumors back to me?”
After sending the message, she turned to Eliana, her expression softening with pity.
Eliana was visibly nervous, repeating the same excuse she’d given Dylan. “Beatrice, I really didn’t mean to take Stella’s design. My own sketches were on that table, and I must have grabbed hers by mistake when I left. I swear I didn’t steal it.”
She lowered her head, dabbing at her eyes pitifully.
Beatrice knew she was feeling wronged. “Eliana, I know. But you have to be more careful from now on. Don’t worry, this will all blow over soon. No one will remember it. After you and Dylan get married, I’ll help you create a new identity. You can still be a designer.”
Eliana was stunned. She couldn’t believe Beatrice was forgiving her after all this.
She really was the best mother–in–law in the world.
“Beatrice… what about Dylan’s condition?” she trailed off, her voice laced with worry.
She was terrified Dylan wouldn’t pull through this time.
Beatrice’s voice turned grim. “Don’t worry. Stella won’t just stand by and let Dylan die.”
“But Beatrice, she helped him before because she didn’t know the truth,” Eliana pointed out, still anxious. “This time is different. Stella thinks we worked with Dylan to kill her son. As a mother… she can’t just forgive that. She might really let him die this time.”
Beatrice had been thinking the exact same thing.
Not far away, hidden in a closet, tears streamed down little Liam’s face. ‘So that’s it. Mommy didn’t abandon me. She doesn’t not recognize me… she thinks I’m dead.‘
If Eliana hadn’t screamed at him in a fit of rage, he never would have known that Stella was his real mother.
‘Mommy, just wait for me, he thought, his eyes hardening with a fierce determination. ‘I’ll find a way back to you.‘ He glared in the direction of the two women. They were both evil.
When Serena and Chris got home, they saw the news trending online–rumors of an affair between her and Joseph Hayes.
Chris stared at the screen.
“Ms. Hale, who did this? What a scumbag move.” He was furious. Why were people always trying to tear her down?
Serena didn’t even have to guess. “It was Beatrice. There’s still time to trace it. Once you have proof, release the truth.
Chris cracked his knuckles, ready for a fight.
That old witch was going to pay for framing Ms. Hale.
As Serena started up the stairs, he called out, “Ms. Hale, can I leak some of her dirt, too?”
Serena paused, looking back at him quizzically. “She has dirt?”

“An old flame,” Chris said, his eyes glinting with excitement. “Caleb sent the info back. She’s been seeing someone on the side.”
Serena’s brow furrowed. She’d never discovered that in all these years.
After a moment, she said, “No. We need to save that. It’ll be more effective if we release it at just the right time.”
“Oh,” Chris said, a little disappointed. But he knew she was right. The right moment would create a much bigger explosion.
Serena continued upstairs.
Back in her room, she stared out the window with a cold smile. ‘Eliana, you think it’s yours for the taking? I’m about to show you that some things can’t be held, no matter how tightly you grip them.‘
She dialed Yolanda’s number to finalize the plans for the bar.

In his hospital room, Dylan saw the news online. His eyes narrowed as he waited for Miles to report his findings.
Miles was tapping away at his laptop nearby. When he located the origin of the post, his eyes widened in surprise.
“Who was it?” Dylan asked, noticing his assistant’s frown.
