Chapter 111
The atmosphere in the hospital room grew thick with tension.
Rowan’s words echoed what Stella had once told Dylan–that he was living in a world built on lies.
Now, even his own uncle was saying Eliana had run off with another man all those years ago.
A dull ache spread through Dylan’s chest. He’d always trusted Eliana.
The letters she sent after she left had saved him.
But Stella had saved him, too.

The memory of Stella’s pained expression brought a sharp, stabbing pain to his own heart, a feeling he couldn’t quite place.
He didn’t notice the panicked looks exchanged between Beatrice and Eliana.
“Dylan, don’t listen to your uncle,” Beatrice said, her voice strained. “He’s just trying to provoke you. You know why I’ve never liked Stella.
“She could have helped you as a friend, but she got greedy and wanted to marry you. That’s what I can’t stand. The daughter–in–law I’ve always wanted is a kind soul like Eliana.”
Dylan’s eyes snapped open, fixing on his mother. ‘Kind?‘ he thought.
Eliana had framed Stella, stolen her designs, and was a half–hearted mother at best.
Was that what kindness was?
Or had he completely misunderstood the meaning of the word?
“You two should go home to the baby,” he said, his voice heavy with a fatigue that went beyond his work stress. “I want to rest.”
Eliana stepped forward. “Dylan, I’ll stay and take care of you.”
“No, the baby is more important,” he insisted. “I don’t feel right with Liam at home by himself. Go back and look after him.”
Eliana didn’t press the issue and left with Beatrice.
The scandal of Eliana stealing Serena’s designs and Beatrice’s part in it had caused the Ashford Group’s stock to plummet.
The moment the two women got downstairs, they were swarmed by reporters.
Beatrice grabbed Eliana’s arm and shoved her into the car, slamming the door shut before telling the driver to go.
Eliana stared at the press pack outside, a sense of injustice welling up inside her. She’d never been treated like this.
The reporters‘ cars gave chase.
Eliana was on edge, but a sharp look from Beatrice silenced her.
The driver couldn’t be trusted; he was Dylan’s man.
Eliana understood and swallowed her frustration.
The thought that her design career was completely finished filled her with rage.

A short distance away, Serena Hale watched Beatrice’s car speed off. She turned to Chris Maddox. “Chris, set a trap for Penny West. Make it so she has no choice but to report Rosalie Avery. They had a falling out over money back then.”
Chris nodded, his own anger simmering. The information he’d uncovered about Rosalie made his blood boil.
“I love it when they turn on each other, Ms. Hale. These people deserve whatever’s coming to them. They treat children’s lives like they’re nothing. Rosalie isn’t just a corrupt doctor–she’s been harvesting healthy organs from deceased infants and selling them on the black market. She’s a monster.”
The thought of her own son brought a murderous glint to Serena’s eyes.
