Dylan’s face was grim. “Keep this under wraps,” he ordered. “I want you to find out if someone forged these records or is trying to frame Eliana.”
Miles had to bite his tongue to keep from cursing Dylan out. It was pointless.
Once Dylan Ashford made up his mind, nothing could change it.
‘Is a woman like Eliana really worth all this?‘ he thought, exasperated.
“For God’s sake, Dylan, snap out of it!” Miles burst out. “You were supposed to be dead in six months! Stella moved heaven and earth to save you. Does that mean less to you than whatever shady business you have with Eliana?
“And it wasn’t just you she saved; it was the entire Ashford family! You people are unbelievable. Your mother insulted and humiliated Stella every single day, knowing full well you had a contract marriage.
“She bullied her constantly! And then she was responsible for the death of Stella’s child–your child, by the way.”
Miles was furious. “Fine. Eliana saved you with her liver donation, so she’s your savior too. But if you chose Eliana, why did you have to hurt Stella so badly? I just don’t get you.”
‘What a scumbag, he added silently.
Miles hung up, fuming.
A notification on his phone caught his eye, and he froze.
Serena Hale had just posted something.
The post included the address of the Ashford mansion. [Regarding the recent exposure of Beatrice Ashford attempting to bribe Falcon Barclay over Eliana Lambert’s plagiarism, Mrs. Ashford has resorted to slandering my relationship with Joseph Hayes. Joseph is a dear friend of my grandfather’s and has known me for years.
[We have reported this to the police and will be pursuing full legal action.]
Miles’s hand shook as a call came in from the Ashford mansion. “Hello?”
The new butler’s voice was frantic. “Mr. Carter, Mrs. Ashford has been arrested.”
Miles was speechless for a moment.
“That was fast.
“I know,” he said calmly.
After hanging up, Miles went back to find Dylan.
Dylan had just lain down and closed his eyes when he heard the footsteps.
He slowly sat up, his gaze falling on the nearly empty IV bag.
“Sir,” Miles said, “Ms. Hale reported it to the police. They’ve taken your mother into custody.”
Dylan’s eyes were cold. “She made her bed. Now she can lie in it.”
Miles blinked. “Huh…”

Eliana watched anxiously as Beatrice was led away. In this house, Beatrice was her staunchest ally.
As she paced nervously by the door, she saw the maid she’d bribed returning from the hospital.
Eliana’s brow furrowed. “Why are you back so soon?”
The maid averted her gaze. “Ms. Lambert, it’s bad,” she stammered. “Mr. Carter found your medical records from when you were treated overseas and gave them to Mr. Ashford. He looked furious, so I didn’t dare go in.”
Eliana’s face went pale with panic. ‘Stella… she told him after all?‘ A murderous rage filled her.
‘I’ll kill her!‘
Eliana spun around and ran upstairs to call her brother, Gabriel.
