The Kismet Bar opening was a massive success, with crowds flocking to taste the creations of Julian Sinclair, the legendary bartender. By eight o’clock, the place was already packed.
Seeing the full house, Julian was in high spirits.
Yolanda Lane walked over, placing her walkie–talkie on the counter.
The newly renovated bar was even more luxurious and elegant than before, a perfect sanctuary to melt away the day’s fatigue.
Amidst the colorful, flashing lights, Julian caught her eye and offered a faint smile. He was handsome, with slightly long bangs that framed his sharp features. “Yolanda, can I get you something?” he asked.
Yolanda shook her head, her voice soft. “No thanks. I’ve got a feeling someone’s here to start something. It might get ugly later.”
Julian paused mid–slice as he was cutting a block of ice. He reached out and tapped her forehead with his cool fingers.

They had become fast friends during the renovation process.
He frowned slightly. “What’s a girl like you doing getting into fights?”
A strange glint appeared in Yolanda’s eyes. “What about being a girl? We can handle ourselves just fine. I can hold my own against any man, thank you very much.”
Juljan couldn’t help but chuckle at her sharp tongue.
“Whoa, okay, I just said one thing. But seriously, if you can’t handle them, I’ve got your back. See these bottles behind me? I’m not afraid to crack some skulls.”
Yolanda was taken aback. The man was even more aggressive than she was.
Shaking her head with a smirk, she said, “I’m going to do a lap. It’d be great if nothing happens, but if it does, tonight’s going to be interesting”
“We’re friends, so just remember to watch your own back, no matter what,” Julian told her.
Yolanda shot him a look, a little exasperated. He always seemed to underestimate her.
But that was just how some men were; they wouldn’t believe what you were capable of until they saw it with their own eyes.
She spoke a few words into her walkie–talkie and headed toward the most crowded part of the bar
“What the hell? This drink tastes like shit,” a rough voice boomed. “And there’s something in it. Why is my girlfriend burning up after drinking this?”
Hearing the commotion, Yolanda immediately made her way toward the group of men.
The chill music that had filled the air came to a halt as all eyes turned to the scene.
“Hey! Who’s in charge here?” the man shouted, standing up aggressively. “Get someone out here who can give us an explanation. What the hell did you put in this drink? My girlfriend’s not doing well. There’s something wrong with your booze.”

Yolanda’s eyes narrowed as she studied the man and the three or four others with him. They all wore leather jackets and reeked of stale cigarette smoke–clearly a rough crowd that looked like they hadn’t changed their clothes in days.
