Eliana stared at him, her voice trembling with desperation. “I’m sick, and my daughter is dead. Dylan, I’m terrified you’ll leave me. That was why Beatrice helped me. She said if I had this baby, you wouldn’t walk away. Please, Dylan, forgive me. I helped you when you were at your lowest, and I saved your life when you needed it most. For all that I’ve done for you, would you marry me?”
Eliana poured out her feelings, reminding him of all the times she’d been there for him.
Dylan’s gaze was icy and sharp as he looked at her. “Eliana, if it weren’t for what you did for me, do you really think you’d still be standing here? So now you expect me to forgive you for stealing my child, and to be grateful for it, huh?”
Dylan gave Beatrice a long, searching look. ‘Why would Beatrice help Eliana like this, even going so far as to make her cut all ties with the Lambert family? There has to be something going on here that I’m missing,’ he thought.
Just then, Nolan walked over and handed Beatrice a document, his voice cold and emotionless. “Beatrice, these are the divorce papers. Sign them.”
Beatrice froze, staring at him in utter disbelief. “Nolan, are you serious? You want a divorce? What have you ever done for this family all these years? You’ve been hiding abroad all this time, and now you just show up out of nowhere and want to divorce me? What did I ever do to you? You’re the one who’s always hurt me.” she screamed at the top of her lungs, her voice raw with emotion.
Nolan shot her a cold, disdainful look. “You schemed your way into getting pregnant with Dylan. Back then, I was already in love with someone else. After all these years, I finally pieced things together–because you went after her, she left.
When we got married, I told you that if you married me, I’d never be a real husband to you. But you kept manipulating me, again and again, until I couldn’t stand it and left the country. Let’s just leave each other alone from now on.
“Nolan knew Dylan was grown up now. He didn’t need to stick around anymore.”
As Nolan spoke, his voice was heavy with disappointment. “From your youth until now, your vicious nature has never changed. You’ve even led my son down my twisted path.
“I’ve looked into Eliana. After the accident in our family, when Dylan was left crippled and the Ashford family went bankrupt, she just ditched him and left with another man. I’ve gotten to the bottom of it. As for who that man was, maybe Ms. Lambert can answer that.”
Eliana shot him a furious glare, her voice trembling as she tried to defend herself. “Sir, I left because I was sick. It wasn’t anything like what you’re accusing me of.”
Her arm burned with pain, but she gritted her teeth and refused to budge. Sweat blurred her vision, yet she couldn’t risk going to the hospital. If she did, there’d be no turning back after today. After this, it’d be almost impossible for her to ever see Dylan again.
Nolan looked at Dylan, feeling a pang of guilt.
“Dylan, I know I’ve let you down all these years. But I never had feelings for your mother. Be honest with yourself and see who you really love. Stella’s a great girl.”
Dylan gave him a cold, mocking smile. “So now you want to act like some loving father? You’ve been hurting me since the very beginning, so don’t bother coming back ever again.”
Nolan turned to Beatrice. “Beatrice, don’t make me do something drastic. I know you’ve been seeing someone else all these years, but I kept quiet. I just wanted to keep things from getting ugly for everyone.”
